Job Title: Category Manager
 
Purpose
The Category Manager is responsible for all management initiatives of their assigned category including: category development and execution, product selection, vendor negotiations, pricing, communications and employee management and Development.  The Category Manager must ensure that brand integrity of products reflects TSC Stores’ goals taking into consideration the company’s financial objectives.
 
 Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for Strategic Category Development to effectively launch a new business to market.
  • Sku forecasting
  • Ad planning
  • Lead and execute the design, development and sourcing of product assortment that supports the brand strategy, and ensures product meets the quality and appearance established by TSC Stores.
  • Develop tactical plans for the category including category positioning, mix and pricing, taking into consideration corporate sales and gross margin targets.
  • Develop promotional programs and activities that maximize sales & profit potential while projecting the right price image and product assortment, as well as maximizing consumer draw, cross sell and impulse buy.
  • Develop strong partnerships with Vendors to ensure that product quality, pricing and service is in compliance with corporate polices.
  • Conduct effective negotiations for the best value and the best cost procurement.
  • Monitor the year-to-date performance of the category against the plan through quarterly reviews and make adjustments as needed to achieve plans.
  • In conjunction with the Planogram department develop planograms that maximize sales, profit, and inventory turns.
  • Identify listed products that do not drive sales, profit and traffic to their fullest potential and create an action plan to improve or delist the products using the established processes
  • Negotiate vendor funds

  • Manage analysis for margin

  • Create exciting promotions
  • Determine the success of individual programs by analyzing key financial and operational metrics, and identifying potential issues & opportunities
  • Responsible for ongoing research of vendor partners to enhance value TSC Stores.  Focusing on sourcing quality, price and product differentiation including targeting and sourcing hot offers.
  • Monitor, interpret and communicate an updated overview of the market place.
  • Ensures the execution of the calendar to meet objectives of on time delivery. Delivering on timelines is essential.
  • Responsible for the overall contribution of Category Management team to TSC Stores objectives (need to create team direction)
  • Manage the performance of Team Members by coaching and developing Team Members in aspects of Category Management.
  • Mentor Team Members, identifying areas for professional growth.
  • Conduct line reviews, decisions, strategy, presentation and pricing decisions.
  • Execution of merchandising initiatives.
  • Communicate brand strategy and trends to Category Management team.
  • Lead working sessions and presentations relative to assessment of seasonal trends, key items and customer centric product lines
  • Other duties as assigned. 
Requirements:
  • Post secondary education in Business
  • 5 years experience as a Category/Product Manager
  • Detailed oriented- able to think “outside the box”
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic business development
  • Strong communication and negotiating skills
  • Proven leadership skills – capable of developing and fostering a team environment
  • Self starter efficient and organized in a fast paced exciting environment
  • Prioritization, time management and multi tasking are essential to meet deadlines
