Outline of Duties

The QA Technicians are responsible for efficient operation of the laboratory and providing assistance to other departments in the event of non-conformances.  Tasks include routine laboratory analysis such as microbiological tests, taste tests and product shelf life evaluation; entry of all results in the appropriate electronic files.  Duties within this position include preparation and documentation of all lab results; trend analysis; troubleshooting quality problems, the calibration of equipment including metal detectors when necessary; assisting with new product development as well as evaluation of all existing products; supporting the production and logistics departments with process improvement projects and acting as a resource when needed. The successful candidate must demonstrate a desire for continuous improvement in all processes.
 
Specific Accountability
  • follow the Quality Standard Operating Procedures
  • follow guidelines established by company and O.H.S.A. to ensure safe work environment
  • manage and maintain the Hold system on a daily basis
  • manage and change product status and locations in Oracle when on hold and released
  • review and file external CofAs
  • prepare and communicate customer COAs
  • maintain lab supplies and external testing requests by preparing appropriate purchase orders
  • conduct monthly thermometer checks
  • review swab results and prepare NC’s when necessary
  • review and file product evaluation / review sheets
  • monitor finished product and ingredient micro sampling schedule
  • monitor all micro test results daily to insure compliance
  • conduct light intensity surveys
  • manage non-conformity log and any communication to/from Customer Service and distribution of complaints to team responsible for responding
  • assist in the investigation of complaints and formulation of responses from team
  • sampling and plating micro, evaluating retain samples and communicating non-conformances to the necessary people/departments
  • evaluation of product, documenting results, identifying non-conformances and notifying necessary person(s)
 Requirements 
  • Post-secondary education in Food Science, Microbiology, Food Lab Technician
  • Dairy experience will be considered an asset
  • Must be able to work well within a fast paced production environment and possess the ability to detect trends and react to make immediate corrections.
  • Must be an independent worker, capable of following direction and applying learned knowledge to different applications
  • Strong proficiency with computer skills and capabilities
  • Must possess excellent communication skills both written and oral
Compensation and Benefits

The starting wage is approximately $25.76/hr, plus applicable shift premium. A competitive health care benefit plan and pension plan are offered after successful completion of the probationary period.
