Humana Community Services is a registered charity, accredited by the Canadian Centre for Accreditation. Through a recent unification process, Anago (Non) Residential Resources Inc. and WAYS Mental Health Support have come together to combine over 100 years of history delivering high-quality services and support for children, youth and adults with specialized needs, and their families/caregivers. Collectively, we are known for providing crisis support; personalized mental health services; supports for community participation and transition to independent living, and safe, therapeutic, educational environments where at-risk children, youth, and vulnerable adults are able to connect, grow and thrive.

Humana Community Services is currently seeking applicants to join our direct support team as a Direct Support Worker (8 positions: 5 vacancies in London, 2 vacancies in Exeter, 1 vacancy in Strathroy). Successful applicants will be responsible for working with diverse group of people providing counselling, care and support to participants on a daily basis. The student functions within a staff team as well as with other professionals from community agencies. Student responsibilities include but are not limited to implementing and maintaining specific treatment plans for each participant, providing therapeutic counselling which could include cognitive restructuring to individual youth, administering first aid and managing crisis etc.

Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in related post-secondary education (SSW, CYC or equivalent)
  • Strong mentorship abilities
  • Good verbal and written skills to communicate information to residents, families, co-workers, and community services
  • Understanding of support requirements specific to individuals with mental health and behavioural challenges
  • Sound knowledge of problem-solving skills to develop creative, evolving plans for children, youth, and their families
  • Physical ability to fulfil the demands of the position
  • Student placement/volunteer experience in residential services, supporting individuals with complex behavioural needs is an asset
  • Bilingualism is considered an asset

Requirements:
  • Must be attending and returning to school on a full-time basis; proof of student status may be requested
  • Valid Ontario G Driver’s License
  • Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Current immunizations and physical health assessment
Position details:
  • Starting wage: $17.69/hr plus vacation pay
  • Locations: 5 vacancies in London, 2 vacancies in Exeter, 1 vacancy in Strathroy
  • Starts as soon as July 1st, 2022
  • Ending Fall 2022
  • Shift work is required, including evenings, weekends and overnights
  • 24/7 on-call support available
