To provide effective financial leadership, services, information and stewardship in support of the academic, research and service activities of Western’s community. 

The Manager, Accounts Payable and Reimbursements is responsible for providing oversight of financial processes for outgoing payments and supervision of staff to ensure adherence to relevant legislation, and University policies and procedures.  The Manager provides effective management to ensure streamlined operation of all business processes related to payment processing and expense reimbursement for the University, and analyzes and works to improve business processes and procedures to reduce processing time, increase efficiencies and minimize weaknesses in internal controls. The Manager will remain up to date on relevant legislation and ensure that processes, procedures and controls remain compliant, as well as being involved in process automation projects, system testing, and faculty and staff training. The Manager also completes year-end working papers for accounts payable, provides support, work coordination and leadership to the staff team, and provides guidance and support to the Western Community to ensure compliance with relevant policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Education:
-   Undergraduate Degree in Business Management/Administration
-   Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) 


Experience:
-   5 years' financial accounting and managerial experience in a business office environment
-   Experience managing staff and projects
-   Experience in a unionized, academic or non-for-profit environment is preferred


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-   In-depth knowledge of best practices for assessing, developing and implementing new business processes and procedures
-   Knowledge of accounting standards for not-for-profits, complex reporting and accounting issues
-   In-depth knowledge of best practices in building a strong collaborative team and leading people and of performance development methods
-   Knowledge of the application of HST, taxable benefits and foreign payments
-   Project management skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously from conception to completion within tightly prescribed timelines
-   Negotiation and influencing skills to effectively advocate needs and maintain relationships
-   Ability to collaborate across internal and external boundaries to meet common objectives, improve outcomes and support work beyond one's own unit
-   Communication skills with the ability to converse with, write reports for, and deliver presentations to all levels of the organization
-   Ability to ensure confidentiality and privacy is maintained through the appropriate retention and destruction of information
-   Ability to provide strategic analysis and recommendations for designing and implementing new and changing administrative and financial processes
-   Decision making skills to provide solutions that are consistent with available facts, constraints and probable consequences
-   Ability to analyze exposures and make recommendations to decrease financial risk
-   Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and with large enterprise software systems (such as PeopleSoft)
-   Ability to handle complex, ambiguous situations with diplomacy, calmness and good judgment
-   Ability to organize and effectively manage financial and human resources needed to achieve results
