Job Description

Hospice of Elgin is a charitable organization with the goal to provide compassionate care to palliative individuals, their caregivers, families, and the bereaved while recognizing and embracing their individual needs.  Hospice of Elgin is in a $13 million campaign to build and operate a 10-bed hospice and palliative care centre to provide much needed specialized service to individuals and families with compassion, hope, and respect.
Reporting to the Executive Director of Hospice of Elgin, this entrepreneurial Director of Community Engagement & Development brings a depth of experience through a full scope of fundraising, from strategy development to identification, and cultivation through to solicitation and stewardship. The Director provides strategic vision and leadership in developing, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive community engagement and development program that includes all Fund Development, Marketing, and Communications activities for Hospice.
The successful candidate will foster a culture of philanthropy and guide a team of staff and volunteers including Board and community members in the following areas: Major Gifts, Annual Giving, Special Events, Donor Relations, Marketing, and Communications. This inspirational, hands-on leader will be results-driven with the ability to take initiative as well as forging and sustaining meaningful relationships in order to impact and serve the St. Thomas and Elgin County community.  In addition, this person will have a proven track record of navigating multiple projects at once, be a forward-thinking problem-solver, and will demonstrate the ability to function in a rapidly evolving work and market environment.

Essential Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 8 years Senior Fund Development experience including significant Major Gift experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Post-Secondary Education related to Fund Development, Sales, and/or Marketing
  • CFRE designation considered an asset
  • Member of AFP, AHP or CAGP an asset
  • Prior experience in a Health Care environment is an asset
  • Proficiency with various software programs: MS Office (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint); fundraising specific (Raiser’s Edge, Donor Perfect or equivalent)
  • Previous experience leading and developing a team with a strategic and visionary approach
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Committed to learning about and upholding the values of Catholic Health Care
