Cargill is a large and reputable food company with operations around the world.  Cargill Value Added Protein (CVAP) operates a chicken processing plant in London, Ontario and a hatchery in Jarvis, Ontario.  The processing plant employs approximately 900 employees and processes 85,000 chickens each day.  The hatchery has approximately 70 employees and, on average, produces 150,000 chicks per day.  Cargill Value Added Protein operates ground beef processing facilities in Brampton, Ontario and Spruce Grove, Alberta employing approximately 130 employees.
 
As the Chief Refrigeration Operator you will report directly to the Facilities Manager and is accountable to ensure the deployment and execution of refrigeration processes, energy, TSSA/PSM (Process Safety Management), environmental compliance control and capital oversight in accordance and alignment with Cargill Corporate policies. You will work with production staff and other personnel to correct production problems where refrigeration considerations are involved and assign projects to and collaborate closely with the plant project team. In addition, you will be accountable for projects, schedule procurement, execution, start up, operability, safety results and the reporting of these results. As the Chief Refrigeration Operator you will interface with other departments to ensure asset health, PSM compliance and operation best practices; this will include work with external customers (i.e. government agencies, industry associations and other organizations).
 
Principal Accountabilities:  

30% - Management of technical operations in refrigeration
20% - Safety Management - Maintain total awareness of and compliance to all Safety regulatory legislation through the facility TSSA/PSM program and Cargill policy and procedures
20% - Staff development and performance management process - Work with Managers regarding operational goals, directives, training and development needs; ensure compliance of all company policies and procedures.
10% - Effectively leverage labour, materials and equipment to prevent failures through proactive reliable asset management
10% - Develop/execute effective equipment maintenance strategies
5% - Manage an on time and effective work plan (diagnostics, deployment, proactive work execution and sustainment) delivery
5% - Develop sustainability and coaching plans for long term success

Qualifications:
Required:
  • Possess a Refrigeration Operator - Class A License
  • 3-5 years of proven refrigeration leadership or equivalent having direct operations experience
  • 3-5 years supervisory experience in a manufacturing/production environment
  • Experience with ammonia cooling and compressed air systems
  • Experience managing HVAC,  Boiler Systems & Steam Processes
  • Working knowledge of TSSA and CFIA standards
  • Strong Communication and Leadership skills
  • Flexibility to work outside of regular work hours when required
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office software (Outlook, Excel, Word)
  • Must be legally entitled to work for Cargill in Canada
Preferred:
  • Previous experience working in a food processing plant
  • Knowledge of Process Safety Management protocols and practices
  • Experience working with SAP
