Job Description
Draftsperson (Full-Time)
Fieldstone HR Consulting is currently recruiting for a full time Draftsperson for a long-time client. The basic function of the Draftsperson is to assist in the preparation & development of working drawings for new homes prior to construction, as well as to assist in providing design support to the sales & home division in order to facilitate sales.
Duties:
The primary duties of the Draftsperson shall consist of, but not limited to:
- Accept & complete all tasks according to prescribed timelines.
- Residential design tasks may include creation of new production models and/or options; customization of existing models to meet customer requirements; generation of new front elevations to assist in the non-duplication of adjacent lots; creation of custom plans.
- Drafting tasks may include preparation of working drawings consisting of floor plans, elevations, sections, applicable details & notes for the purpose of customer review, building permit application, or construction.
- Comprehensive building code evaluation for each home, including but not limited to applicable structural detailing, building envelope detailing, spatial separation, fire protection, mechanical routing & efficiency.
- Coordination of applicable structural engineering details, roof truss design, HVAC design and lot development plan for each building permit application.
- Coordination of the entire building permit application.
- Preparation of documentation to obtain developer approval (where required).
- Assist in recognizing & capitalizing on cost saving opportunities inherent in the design of each model (i.e. materials, kitchen layouts, structural layouts, etc.).
- Assist with miscellaneous drafting, estimating and/or purchasing initiatives as needed.
- Three-year diploma in an architectural or related design discipline.
- Three years’ experience in a drafting and/or architectural design related position at a residential construction company.
- Basic knowledge of the residential building market and construction industry.
- Thorough understanding of typical residential building techniques and Part 9 of the Ontario Building Code.
- Requires successful completion of BCIN certification within no more than (1) calendar year from date of hire in at least the following categories: General Legal and House and/or Small Buildings.
- Basic knowledge of the Ontario Electrical Code.
- Ability to develop a comprehensive understanding of A-typical residential building techniques and construction methods.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, construction details, electrical & HVAC diagrams, truss layouts and material specifications.
- Ability to produce accurate & comprehensive working drawings that serve as detailed work instructions for new home construction.
- Experience working with land surveyors, site & structural engineers, truss & HVAC designers to compile a complete and thorough building permit application.
- General understanding of job costing.
- General understanding of the job planning and scheduling process.
- The sense of sight, speech (English), and hearing are required.
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be proficient in: Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Standard, Softplan, AutoCAD LT
