Project Coordinator:  Seeds of Change Project
2 Year Contract – 17.5 to 21 Hours Per Week
 
Seeds of Change is a multi-faceted project to enhance the community response to immigrant and refugee communities that are struggling with mental health and addiction issues.   We are seeking a Project Coordinator to manage Phase Two which will leverage the strong and successful foundation established in Phase One.  The purpose of Phase Two is to engage ESL, faith leaders and settlement workers, immigrants and refugees as well as mental health and addiction workers in the development of training and resources that will reduce stigma, increase knowledge and awareness, and decrease barriers to access.  Community partners working together to co-lead this initiative include the Canadian Mental Health Association Middlesex, Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, Cross Cultural Learner Centre, London Intercommunity Health Centre, Middlesex-London Health Unit and United Way of London and Middlesex. Family Service Thames Valley is the umbrella organization for this initiative.
 
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Seeds of Change Co-Chairs, the Project Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and implementing the day-to-day activities of the project.  The Project Coordinator will be guided and supported by the Seeds of Change Advisory Group as well as a Resource Development and Evaluation Consultants.
 
Responsibilities: 
 
  • Manage all aspects of the project
  • Provide administrative support to the Seed of Change Advisory Group, coordinating meetings, minutes, reports, preparing background documents etc.
  • Conduct outreach to ethno-cultural communities, services providers, faith leaders, settlement workers and ESL Teachers
  • Organize and plan a training forum
  • Host forum for mental health and addiction workers and solicit  feedback about what tools and resources they
  • are using and what is needed
  • Compile, adapt and develop resources and tools for service providers and for faith leaders, ESL and settlement workers based on feedback
  • Work with evaluation consultant to develop and implement an evaluation strategy.
  • Work with Resource Development Consultant to develop training for faith leaders, settlement workers and ESL teachers to build their capacity to recognize signs of mental health and addiction in their clients and to know how to support them
  • Host capacity building training for mental health and addiction service providers to build their capacity to do culturally competent work with the target group and distribute resources
  • Provide additional training for organizations and professionals as needed to work with target group
  • Deepen engagement, outreach and community development and provide ongoing support for integration of training and resources within organizational structures
 
Qualifications:
 
  • Post secondary education in the human service field or equivalent education/experience
  • Excellent interpersonal as well as English written and verbal communication skills
  • Second language is an asset
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office
  • Self motivated and self-directed
  • Leadership and project management skills
  • Facilitation skills
  • Training and Presentation skills
  • Knowledge of the mental health and addictions service network in London
  • Experience in engaging multiple stakeholders and diverse groups. Previous work with immigrant and refugee members of ethnocultural groups an asset.
  • Understanding of impacts of pre- and post-migration experience on mental health and addictions issues for immigrants and refugees
