SUMMARY

The Director, Marketing and Communications will be responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy that supports the mission, vision and long-term goals of Huron University College.  The overarching plan will incorporate traditional, digital, and web based media to grow brand recognition both nationally and internationally.  With the ultimate goal of advancing and positioning Huron University College as a leader in post-secondary liberal arts and theological education, the incumbent will: 
  • Provide leadership for the development and execution of a comprehensive strategic marketing and communications plan to enhance awareness of Huron University College, its reputation and brand;
  • Manage Huron’s media strategy with a focus on issues management, digital marketing, website redesign and renewal, content development and delivery of information, news and accomplishments in support of Huron’s priorities;
  • Work closely with Senior Leadership and other colleagues across the Huron community to promote awareness and engagement to enhance Huron’s capacity to communicate its vision, strengths and achievements both nationally and internationally.
The Director, Marketing and Communications will report to the Executive Director, University Advancement and oversees the work of the Communications Associate.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
  • A undergraduate degree from an accredited institution with a focus on Marketing, Communications or related discipline;
  • Seven (7) years’ related experience in strategic communications, issues management and media relations in a complex organization or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience;
  • A strong understanding of the mission of a liberal arts university such as Huron;
  • A proven ability to successfully navigate crisis communications while maintaining a positive reputation and brand adherence;
  • Proven success developing, implementing and evaluating creative and unique marketing and communication strategies to support institutional priorities;
  • Demonstrated proficiency related to budgeting, including the ability to prioritize and allocate resources;
  • Proven skills in all aspects of leadership, supervision and motivation of direct reports;
  • A commitment to collaboration to inspire trust, build consensus and motivate various stakeholders with diverse and differing opinions to focus on a common goal;
  • A flexible and adaptable working style to organize, prioritize and manage multiple tasks and competing deadlines;
  • Demonstrated judgement, problem solving and analytical capabilities with a high degree of integrity, ethics and dedication to the mission of Huron;
  • Enthusiasm for working with a team to advance the strategic direction for Huron at a time of extraordinary opportunity;
  • Well-honed interpersonal skills to represent Huron professionally and the ability to build positive relationships across stakeholder groups;
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills;
  • Proficient in the use of current marketing and communications best practice, applications, systems and tools.
