Position: Food Service Worker
Organization: WAYS Mental Health Support
Status: 30 hours per week for approximately 11 weeks; weekends and evenings required
Wage Rate: $13.40/hour
Anticipated Start Date:  June 2017
*This is a Canada Summer Job funded position. Start date will be dependent on approval of funding.
 
WAYS Mental Health Support is an accredited children’s mental health centre that supports children, youth and their families throughout Southwestern Ontario. Since 1969, over 5,000 youth have lived in our group homes and thousands more have benefited from a variety of community programs. WAYS Mental Health Support has over 180 staff with a consolidated management team and a single board of directors.
 
At WAYS our mission is to engage with at risk children, youth and families through counselling, learning, skill development and advocacy to achieve healthy, independent lives and positive self-esteem. As a Food Service Worker you would have the opportunity to work with some truly dedicated staff in a supportive environment that builds on the strengths of every employee.
 
This position is ideal for you if:
  • You are familiar with menu planning and meal preparation for groups of 7 to 15 individuals.
  • You have the ability to lift/move bulk items (10-20 lbs.) and equipment as required.
  • You are someone who enjoys working with a diverse group of people.
  • You have excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • You can work in a fast-paced environment with many interruptions.
  • You have the ability to maintain composure in stressful situations.
 In the position of Food Service Worker you would be responsible for the following:
  • Preparing high quality food and meals for youth in a professional, quality driven and courteous manner.
  • Ensure food products are properly prepared; inspecting the quality and verifying recipe adherence for proper preparation.
  • Ensure sufficient back-up food is prepared to meet demands.
  • Plan, prepare and complete food preparation for alternate meals and snacks.
  • Oversee inventory stock.
  • Ensure proper sanitation of work area in adherence with Health and Safety regulations and Safe Food Handling guidelines.
  • Comply with all Food Service regulations and established policies.
 The successful candidate will meet the following:
  • Will be between the ages of 19-30 on the start date of the job.
  • Will have been a Full-Time Student during the previous academic year and is intending to return to full-time studies in the next academic year.
  • Will be working towards a diploma or degree in; Food and Beverage Programs, Culinary Arts, Food and Nutrition, or other applicable area of study.
  • Current Safe Food Handling Certificate
  • Ability to provide Vulnerable Sector Police Check
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident or a refugee under the Immigration and Refugees Protection Act.
  • Must possess a valid class G2 Driver’s License.
