Working to a full scope of practice, the Registered Nurse will provide comprehensive primary care to clients. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a difference in the lives of newcomers and refugees, and those significantly marginalized by poverty, addiction, mental health, and housing issues. This role will work with our newcomer clinic, supporting newcomers to Canada along the continuum of care within a health promotion framework and liaising with interdisciplinary team members and external care providers to facilitate the best plan of care for clients.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Postsecondary diploma (RN) or degree (BScN) from a recognized college or university
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • 3-5 years of nursing experience in a community setting or combination of community and hospital or public health
  • Knowledge of trauma and violence-informed care and experience working with individuals experiencing trauma and the refugee experience
  • Understanding of and commitment to health and health equity
  • Awareness and understanding of the social determinants of health
  • Ability to work with marginalized people of diverse backgrounds with an inclusive and anti-oppressive lens

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to prioritize competing demands
  • Strong computer skills, including the use of MS Office Products and Electronic Medical Records (Telus Practice Solutions Suite currently in use)
  • This practice environment is actively implementing RN prescribing; support can be provided to those interested in seeking this skillset
  • French and other language skills are considered an asset in supporting the communities we serve
