Harrison Pensa is a full-service law firm based in London, Ontario, with expertise in business law, litigation and personal legal services including family, wills and estate, and personal injury law. Human Resources Manager
Reporting to and working closely with the Chief Operating Officer (COO), this position is responsible for all aspects of human resources, payroll and benefits, and oversight of certain administration team functions. Responsibilities include:
Human Resources
- Leads and coaches team members, supports and activates change while ensuring effective human resource management (selection, development, performance management and rewards).
- Manages recruitment and interviewing processes, and counselling hiring Managers and Lawyers on candidate selection.
- Oversees and monitors performance review process for employees by working with managers/lawyers to coach and assist employees to achieve desired results.
- Participates with employees and managers/lawyers in hearing and resolving employee issues and concerns. Conducts and analyzes exit interviews recommending changes as required.
- Ensures legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable human resource policies and guidelines.
- Assists employees with onboarding through orientation programs and coordination of training.
- Participates in firm activities to encourage employee engagement and demonstrate the firm’s profile as an employer of choice.
- Maintains compensation plans by conducting salary surveys; assessing performance evaluations; preparing salary budgets; and, recommending and implementing salary structure revisions.
- Leads payroll administration, including bi-weekly payroll processing, and acting as initial contact for inquiries and issues related to payroll.
- Maintains employee benefits programs, including the assessment of on-going benefit needs and trends. Administers benefits and leave of absence documentation as required.
- Completes year end payroll administration tasks ensuring that all employee records and filings are accurate, timely and up to date.
- Supervises a team of committed and dedicated administration staff who perform office support functions.
- Oversees the firm’s shared services initiative with centralization of certain administration functions.
- Identifies opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies.
- Supports the strategic initiatives of the firm and partnership matters as an integral member of the Management Team.
- Oversees health and safety compliance activities and advises on policies based on regulatory requirements. Participates in all initiatives related to health and safety.
- Assesses business requirements, recommends changes and assists in implementation.
- Supports facilities management through participation in meetings, decisions and projects that impact lawyers and staff.
- Formal education in Human Resources or related field.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in Human Resources.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to manage projects from inception through execution.
- Experience processing payroll and administering benefits.
- Cross-functional experience in human resources, payroll and administration recognizing that the experience in each area will vary by candidate given the diverse nature of the role.
- Knowledge of and ability to utilize Microsoft office suite of products with emphasis on Word and Excel.
