Job Description
Reporting to the Vice-President, the Manager, Business Services will be responsible for leading the Business Services team from both a Measured Innovation (internal) and Business and Fund Development (external) capacity.

Measured Innovation
The measured innovation role is responsible for developing, implementing and managing business processes and procedures. This includes but is not limited to:
- Supervise and provide direction to all Business Services employees
- Manage the client intake process
- Ensure all funding reports (quarterly & annually), including RIC BAP, ONEP, FedDev BURST, and Trillium are completed and submitted according to schedule
- Develop a strategy to improve use and performance of the internal Client Relationship Management (CRM) program in terms of reporting metrics and recording client activity
- Take a leadership role for the organization on the MaRS Data Catalyst initiative, and participate in the working groups and regular meetings
- Streamline internal resources in order to more effectively manage clients based on their stage of growth and potential
- Create a system for matching companies to a variety of external resources (connections, funding opportunities, educational workshops, etc.) based on a defined set of criteria (i.e., commercialization stage, industry, degree of innovation, value potential, defensible IP, eligibility criteria, etc.)
- Identify gaps in the local & regional innovation ecosystem, make recommendations on how to close those gaps, and work with the Programs and Communications teams to implement improvements
- Collaborate with the Communications team to ensure Business Services has a strong brand in the London community, across the region and within the province (i.e. Success Stories)
Business and Fund Development
The business and fund development portion of this role is responsible for pursuing new opportunities for TechAlliance. This includes but is not limited to:
- Managing and executing a strategy to increase awareness and regional business development activities with the Business Services team
- Generating new client activity
- Maintaining strategic connections in the region to facilitate referrals to/from partners
- Identifying and applying for new internal funding opportunities
- Managing internal and external stakeholders during funding application process to ensure a timely and strong application
- Coordinating with the Programs team, to develop new initiatives that enhance TechAlliance’s client offering
- Overseeing the delivery of key client facing programs and events including but not limited to: Proteus Innovation Competition, BURST Program, StartUp Drinks, and Office Hours
- Educating community partners about TechAlliance and the Ontario Network of Entrepreneurs
- Attending TechAlliance and other community events on a regular basis
- Assisting other members of the TechAlliance team
- Promoting tech entrepreneurship as a viable career path

- Knowledge and experience with patents, technology transfer and regulatory (FDA, Health Canada)
Education and Training Required
Due to the multi-faceted nature of this position, we require an individual with a diverse background.
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in Business, Entrepreneurship or related-discipline
- 3-5yrs work experience that could include: Project Management, Entrepreneurship, Business Development, Government Relations, etc.
- Relevant experience working with technology (websites, CRM’s, etc.)
