Job Description

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Facility Manager will be responsible for the on-site management and day-to-day operations at the STEAM Education Centre, including the installation and maintenance of makerspace and digital media equipment; development and execution of space planning initiatives and operations procedures; and coordination of cleaning and general maintenance. The candidate will provide interim front of house support, directing incoming guests and visitors, administering tours, and responding to booking requests and inquiries. The Facility Manager will also assist the Executive Director with program development and execution. This position will include occasional weekends and evenings.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 
  • Plan and coordinate layout of makerspaces, creative studios, and common areas.  

  • Prepare and enforce policies and procedures for use of facilities, software, and equipment.

  • Conduct and/or coordinate equipment training sessions for members, students, and other regular users of the space.

  • Introduce members and staff to new and emerging technologies in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) education.

  • Develop membership onboarding procedures and conduct orientation and training for all new members.

  • Provide preventative maintenance and repair equipment as needed.

  • Arrange and administer tours with prospective users of the space.

  • Manage and book events, meeting rooms, and production studios.

  • Develop and manage online events calendar and wiki for the STEAM Education Centre.

  • Assist Executive Director with coordinating STEAM education and digital literacy programming initiatives: i.e., workshops, classes, and seminars, and community events.

  • Run the welcome desk, directing incoming guests and visitors to the appropriate destination.

  • Manage email, phone and in-person inquiries.

  • Prepare and implement daily and weekly cleaning schedules to ensure a clean and welcoming environment.

  • Manage ongoing facility development, security and maintenance requirements; schedule repairs, renovation projects and safety inspections as needed.

 

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

 
  • Bachelor's Degree, Diploma, certificate or equivalent experience in Facility Management, Digital Media Production, Communications, or related discipline.

  • Demonstrated experience working with any or all of the above: maker technologies (3D-printing, laser cutting, CNC milling), audio/video production, digital photography, computer programming, fabrication equipment, Raspberry Pi, Arduino, Robotics, and other related technologies.  

  • Keeps abreast technological advances and emerging technologies in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) education.

  • High aptitude for learning new “hands on” technologies and digital media platforms.

  • WIllingness to undergo training for specialized equipment or software as needed.

  • Proficiency with office management software (Google Apps, Microsoft Office), email and internet.

  • Must be an energetic self-starter, able to manage multiple priorities in a face-paced environment.

  • Ability to work well independently and with others.

  • Superb customer service skills.

  • Must have vulnerable persons background check.


STEAM Education Centres is an non-profit organization dedicated to the development and delivery of STEAM education programming and advocacy in Southwestern Ontario and beyond. We program and provide access to resources, workshops and community spaces that enhance awareness and understanding of innovative technologies and digital media. We work closely with our regional school boards, STEAM educators and local communities to enable edifying interaction across all age groups and backgrounds.
