WORK DESCRIPTION

The Cook is responsible for preparing and delivering a high quality, excellent value product to the customer and in working towards the achievement of store and company goals related to Farm Boy Chef operations. The performance of the duties must ensure a quality service approach to all employees, customers and suppliers. All responsibilities must be performed in a manner consistent with the Farm Boy vision, mission, and the Farm Boy Way. 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.  Provide superior customer service and deal with any customer complaints or concerns as well as teach and empower all staff to do the same;
2.  Perform opening and closing procedures for the department;
3.  Ensures that all food is creatively and attractively presented at all times while the store is open;
4.  Coordinate, prepare and present food in accordance with the established quality standards;
5.  Coordinate department activity ensuring that goals are properly communicated and attained;
6.  Practice and promote Company policies (as communicated in meetings, policies and procedure manuals, employee guidebooks, written directives, etc.) and ensure compliance;
7.  Oversee the quality of product for sale, the appearance of the counters, the accuracy of signage and the cleanliness of production and retail areas at all times;
8.  Conduct inventory of merchandise;
9.  Communicate weekly, the supply and packaging orders necessary for the department to the Chef;
10. Monitor, at least twice daily, the refrigeration, freezer and service counter temperatures;
11. Ensure compliance of all Government regulations and Health & Safety standards including HACCP food handling and WHIMIS chemical safety;
12. Safeguard the integrity of the Company’s financial information;
13. May be requested to undertake other related duties on a periodic basis.

The following skill sets are required for this position:
  • Typically requires completion of a post-secondary program with an emphasis in culinary arts, plus up to 1 year experience in a culinary/food environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Superior customer service skills;
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and analytical skills;
  • Superior knife handling skills;
  • Excellent team building and team participation skills;
  • Skilled at handling complaints and communicating with upset, irate or irrational people;
  • Superior standards of quality;
  • Good judgment and decision-making abilities;
