JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: 7 months full-time contract with a high probability of renewal for another 12 months

STATUS: Temporary full-time employment (September 2022 – March 2023)

SALARY: $25 per hour plus benefits

The Elgin Middlesex Oxford Workforce Planning and Development Board is a community non-profit organization providing regional stakeholders with quality labour market information and workforce planning and development solutions to make decisions resulting in a thriving and vibrant economy.
As an expert in marketing and communications, the Communications and Community Engagement Specialist will build awareness about the work of the Workforce Planning and Development Board (WPDB) as well as the workforce initiatives in the Elgin, Middlesex, and Oxford counties. The Communications and Community Engagement Specialist will promote WPDB’s projects and share local labour market information. This includes disseminating local labour market information in a variety of formats and contributing to discussions at strategic and tactical levels with community stakeholders and partners. Communication formats will include traditional and social media. 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Communicating on behalf of the WPDB.
  • Develop and execute the Communications Strategy for the WPDB ensuring that all required funder recognition is done in accordance with funder guidelines and has been approved by the funder if so required.
  • Ensure articulation of the WPDB desired image and position, providing consistent communication of the image and position of the WPDB to all partners and the community.
  • Develop and maintain the social media accounts for the WPDB ensuring that there are daily releases of information through social media.
  • Oversee the development of and manage the ongoing maintenance of the WPDB websites ensuring that there are weekly updates to the website.
  • Outreach, develop, and nurture relationships with workforce stakeholders
 
  1.  Develop and boost stakeholder and media’s interest in labour market information
  • Assist in the creation and delivery of presentations to stakeholders using labour market information.
  • Ensure that the WPDB regularly releases relevant labour market research.
  • Monitor labour market trends and use this information in communications to help the WPDB operate with initiative and innovation.
  • Participate in activities as assigned, such as marketing and special events.
  • Report progress to the Executive Director of the Workforce Planning and Development    Board.
  • Maintain relevant communication reporting documents and systems.
  • Assist with and/or initiate discussions regarding workforce issues and support problem-solving
  • Develop and maintain systems to establish standards relating to the communication activities.
  • Define communication requirements by identifying milestones, phases and elements, and monitor progress
  • Develop and maintain systems to measure performance against established standards.
 
  1. Act as an internal consultant to bring attention and solutions to WPDB priorities.
 
  1. Effectively assist staff and Board of Directors so they can act on behalf of the WPDB by demonstrating these competencies:
  • articulating WPDB values, vision, and direction;
  • respecting and using the skills, expertise, experience, and insights of people;
  • communicating - which includes helping people transform information into knowledge and learning;
  • encouraging people to ask strategic questions; ensuring quality decision-making;
  • anticipating conflicts and facilitating resolution;
  • engaging people in process as well as tasks; and modeling positive behaviour.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
  • Diploma or degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related equivalent program.
  • Experience providing communication and engagement support in a fast-paced and ever-changing work environment.
  • Good understanding of the London, Elgin, Middlesex, and Oxford community and services.
  • Strong organizational skills reflecting the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks effortlessly with excellent attention to detail.
  • Experience working with traditional and social media as well as website design and development.
  • Expertise in developing and executing traditional and/or social media communication plans
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrating tact and diplomacy, managing confidential information, building rapport and positive working relationships, and creating concise and effective communications.
  • Commitment to and understanding issues related to equity, diversity, inclusion and anti-racism.
  • Ability to lead and assist with project management, event planning and coordination, and other duties as required.
  • Self-motivated, able to take initiative and problem solve with minimal direction.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office 365 suite, Adobe Photoshop/Premiere, Canva Pro and/or other graphic design software and or applications, WordPress or similar content management system platforms, MS Teams and Zoom, and Google Analytics.
  • Experience developing questionnaires and collecting survey data (Survey Monkey, or Qualtrics, or Google Forms, or JotForm, etc.) is a bonus.
  • Knowledge of Hootsuite Pro, Constant Contact, and Eventbrite applications also considered a bonus

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Occasionally you will be required to travel to Elgin, Middlesex and Oxford counties to reach out to stakeholders, collect data, and/or participate in community events (meetings, Job Fairs, Expos, Shows, etc.).
