The Windows System Administrator role is to implement the organization’s Windows, Storage and Virtual infrastructure according to best practices, while ensuring high levels of data quality, reliability and availability. This individual will support policies and procedures to ensure consistent storage and VM provisioning, uptime and Windows systems security. The Windows System Administrator, in conjunction with the Windows Systems Engineer is responsible for management and control of all Corporate/Production information storage devices and space, VM’s and supporting infrastructure. Assist in the day to day operations and support and act as a technical resource as necessary to the helpdesk team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead in the areas of Microsoft and VMware technologies and products, providing subject matter expertise to the project team.
  • Installs and configures one or more technology components of the solution, as per the design specifications.
  • Participates in the development of test plans, test cases and conducts system testing of one or more technology components.
  • Participates in project scheduling/planning activities.
  • Interacts with the project team in the implementation and configuration of the technology solution.
  • Assesses impacts on scope changes on one or more technology areas.
  • Installation and configuration of system hardware and software.
  • Identify and resolve operational and connectivity problems related to computer systems.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, administer and tune operating system and hardware
  • Perform upgrades & testing for system/network hardware, software and third party tools
  • System security administration and hardening.
  • Perform system management activities including tape backup management, disk storage and vm sizing.
  • Provide advice on the operations and functionality of various applications and systems.
  • Set up print queues, network shares, application installation points and any other requested network access while ensuring security issues are continually met
  • Documents build and run books for Steady State Operations.
  • Develop and document the configuration and operations of computer systems.
  • Provide documentation on various network administrative tasks such as backup procedures, user accounts etc.
  • Perform capacity planning analysis and other needs assessments to inform storage architecture strategy
  • Establish strategies for storage consolidation, centralization, and optimization to reduce downtime and costs while improving security and storage performance.
  • Oversee tasks such as backup procedures, user and group account creation, mailbox creation, basic troubleshooting.
  • Develop and maintain procedures for storage change management, availability management, backup management, incident management, and process documentation.
  • Maintain current knowledge of storage-related laws, trends, and issues as applicable, including current and emerging technologies and best practices.
  • Manage the installation, and configuration of new and existing storage devices and corresponding software.
  • Analyze storage systems performance, collect information, and prepare summary reports.
  • Ensuring that all existing backup and recovery operational procedures are adhered to and are compliant with the backup and recovery policies.
  • Plan, implement and manage messaging infrastructure: Exchange 2007, Exchange 2010, Blackberry Servers, ActiveSync, etc.
  • Plan, design and implement messaging security products and related mechanisms.
  • Specify, select and manage the use of backup and recovery products and tools.
  • Plan, and implement server, desktop and email security: anti-virus, anti-spam, anti-spyware, messaging security, etc.
  • Plan and implement Active Directory group policies, OU's, group structures, AD replication and remote data center AD connectivity and replication.

 Successful Candidate Will Be:

  • A degree or diploma in Computer Science along with solid (5-10) years experience in the following: In-depth understanding of Windows & Storage architecture design techniques, theories, principles, and practices Solid experience architecting Windows enterprise storage, archival/backup, and DRP systems with a broad spectrum of storage technologies. Ideally one or more certifications in the corresponding technologies.
  • Technical requirement may vary depending on specific operating systems and applications. The following is a general sample of typical technical knowledge required.

    • Excellent knowledge of Windows 2003 / 2008, Some working knowledge of Linux.
    • Knowledge and understanding of change management systems.
    • Excellent knowledge, design and implementation experience with Active Directory and related services.
    • Design and management knowledge of Hyper V technology.
    • Experience with design and management of VMware vSphere, ESX and vCenter products.
    • Design, implementation and management of messaging environments and technologies: Exchange 2007, Exchange 2010, Blackberry Enterprise Servers, ActiveSync, etc.
    • Project management/project lifecycle experience.
    • Excellent knowledge of: SAN, NAS, DAS, RAID, SCSI, iSCSI, Fibre Channel, tape, clustering, encryption,  Virtualization, Messaging technologies and related products.
    • Experience with configuration management tools.
    • Net Backup, Backup Exec, Veam/VM backup software
