Job Description
Summary:
Reports to the Manager – Solid Waste Engineering. Collects surface and groundwater samples and measures methane gas levels at or near open and closed landfills. Undertakes field testing as required.
Work Performed:
Conducts all groundwater and surface water sampling, including field measurements, at the W12A Landfill Site and closed landfill sites. Requires knowledge of ground water and surface water sampling techniques and uses various pieces of equipment (water level tape, water bailer, groundwater pumps, generator, pH metre, redox metre).

Conducts all groundwater and surface water sampling, including field measurements, at the W12A Landfill Site and closed landfill sites. Requires knowledge of ground water and surface water sampling techniques and uses various pieces of equipment (water level tape, water bailer, groundwater pumps, generator, pH metre, redox metre).
Set up, calibrate and retrieve data loggers measuring surface water flows.
Methane monitoring at closed landfills including measuring methane gas concentrations in building and manholes and completing bar tests.
Inspection of mechanical and passive methane gas venting systems. Make repairs to passive gas venting systems.
Data review and input of monitoring data and other waste management information.
Participate in related waste management activities such as community awareness events, program awareness events and program monitoring.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Secondary School graduation plus 1 year of 2 year Community College towards Engineering or Environmental Technician diploma.

Valid Driver’s Licence – Class G.
