Job Description

The London Children’s Museum is looking for a creative, fun, professional and enthusiastic Visitor Experience Animators (VEAs) to join our team and run amazing day camp programming throughout summer 2017. Working within the Visitor Experiences Team, the VEAs will contribute to the development and delivery of outstanding programs and day camps for children between the ages of 4 and 12 years old. Position: Full-time, hourly contract position at 37.5 hours per week from June 5, 2017 – September 3, 2017 (13 weeks)
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop, deliver and facilitate ten weeks of high-quality, fun and engaging day camp programs with weekly themes focusing on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math), heritage and culture (including a Canada 150 focused week)
  • Encourage and support an inclusive and respectful atmosphere for all campers
  • Ensure the care, safety and security of day campers at all times
  • Supervise and participate in onsite and offsite activities including swimming, physical activity, experiments, art activities, songs, and games
  • Communicate with parents/caregivers of campers on a daily basis
  • Deliver other Children’s Museum programs including birthday parties, demonstrations, events and outreach activities as needed, including Canada 150 summer programming
  • Provide exceptional visitor experience and customer service
  • Provide training, support and supervision of volunteers
  • Be a helpful, positive and engaged member of the Children’s Museum staff team
  • Accept other duties as assigned
 
Skills:
  • A desire to play and have fun!
  • Enthusiasm for children, families and the experiential learning philosophy practiced by the Children’s Museum
  • Interest in STEAM, heritage, culture and/or education
  • Previous experience working with children (previous day camp experience is an asset)
  • Desire to work in a distinctly child-centred environment
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to work both independently and within a team
  • Strong verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays and some Friday evenings
 
Position Requirements:
  • Child & Infant First Aid and CPR training
  • Valid Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Between the ages of 16 and 30 years of age at start of employment (June 1, 2017)
  • A full-time student (secondary or post-secondary) in the previous year (2016/2017)
  • Intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year (2017/2018)
  • Be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or a person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the immigration and refugee protection act
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial legislation and regulations
  • HIGH FIVE® certification and All Kids in Camp training provided by the Children’s Museum
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays and some Friday nights
 
Education: Enrolled in secondary or post-secondary education.
 
Compensation: $11.40/hour
