Senior Manager, Finance
 
OVERVIEW OF ROLE
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Senior Manager, Finance is accountable for managing the day to day operations of Participation House Support Services’ Finance department.
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Accounting
  • Oversees the normal day to day finance department operations, i.e.  Accounts receivable, accounts payable, deposits, bank reconciliations, general ledger, consumer finances, etc.
 
  1. Analysis
  • Initiates financial analyses for the Chief Operating Officer.
 
  1. Audit
  • Assists with audits; prepares audit working papers; liaises with the external auditors.
 
  1. Budget
  • Partners with the Chief Operating Officer with respect to forecasting, planning, preparing and monitoring the budget.
 
  1. Compliance
  • Ensures compliance with provincial and federal requirements and audit procedures.
 
  1. Financial Reporting
  • Prepares and distributes Financial Statements for the agency (Board, Executive Director, and Chief Operating Officer).
  • Ensures government financial reporting requirements are met within prescribed deadlines.
  • Reviews and reports financial transactions to funding sources.
 
  1. Foundation
  • Prepares and maintains all financials for the PHSS Foundation.
 
  1. Team 
  • Coaches, mentors and manages a staff of 2 direct reports to this role:
  • Accounts Payable/Receivable Clerk.
  • Finance Clerk.
 
  1. Productivity and Efficiencies
  • Suggests improvements to financial processes, internal controls and financial policies and procedures.
  • Achieves specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely goals and milestones.
 
  1. Accreditation
  • Ensures the Finance department is prepared for regular Accreditation reviews.
 
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance.
 

Training/Development
  • Completion of a CPA (CA, CGA or CMA) designation.
 

Knowledge
  • Agency Policies, Procedures and Practices.
  • Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Privacy Legislation.
 

Skills
  • Numerically literacy; superior attention to detail.
  • Strong organization skills; work under pressure, re-prioritize competing demands and meet set deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills; the ability to write clearly and to speak in groups as well as one on one.
  • Strong relationship building skills with diverse stakeholders; the ability to build and sustain relationships with banking and government officials as well as funders and PHSS staff.
  • Be able to work as part of a team as well as independently.
  • Work both strategically and hands on.
  • Offer high level critical thinking, analysis, problem solving skills and make sound decisions on a timely basis.
  • Be adaptive as the sector and agency experience change.
  • Computer literate at an advanced level. 
  • Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Accounting software (ACCPAC, ERP, and Sage).
  • HRIS software would be an asset.
 

Experience
  • At least 5 years’ progressively responsible experience in the field of accounting and finance including at least 2 years in a leadership role, both people and projects.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the not for profit sector.
 

Other Special Considerations
  • Completion of a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Availability for evening and weekend meetings and events as well as occasional overnight travel out of town.
