Job Description

Our client, an auto parts manufacturer in the Woodstock, Ontario area is looking to add a qualified
Robotic Technician to their team. It is a newly created role based on company growth.

Major Responsibilities of Position

  • To supervise and manage Robotic Systems on existing and incoming machinery
  • Support personnel from maintenance/engineering and other teams in resolving issues with equipment in order to facilitate production and promote continuous improvements.  
  • Developing and Implementing Robotic solutions to achieve greatest productivity in integrated cells, relating to the production and quality assurance of parts, information systems and equipment documentation.
  • Troubleshoot robotic systems, using knowledge of microprocessors, programmable controllers, electronics, circuit analysis, mechanics, sensor or feedback systems, hydraulics and or pneumatics.
  • Maintain service records of robotic equipment and automated production systems.
  • Disassemble and reassess replacement of sensors, servomotors, robot harness and robots.
  • Maintain service records and drawings of systems.
  • Document robotics test procedures and results.
  • Install, program, or repair robot controllers and end-of-arm tooling.
  • Develop robotic path motions to maximize efficiency, safety, and quality.
  • Assist Engineers/Engineering in the design, configuration or application of robotic systems.
  • Install new robotic systems and support implementation
  • Investigation and development of new technologies. Continually improving machine up time and operability. Supporting all teams within the manufacturing facility, providing technical expertise and demonstrating leadership.
  • Upgrade and update equipment drawings and robot program files.
  • Performing risk analysis.
  • Work with Engineers/Engineering to ensure that equipment has proper safety documentation (PSHSR, manuals etc.)
  • Implement and upgrade safety controls (Safety over Ethernet)
  • Panel documentation/labeling, and tracking of changes up to date. Controls new technology training for maintenance.  Cohesiveness in maintenance i.e. projects, going in same direction. PDR/Health & Safety sign offs done in conjunction with outside Engineers.
  • Rewrite existing robot/automation specifications to useable format for vendor   quotations and in-house use. Continuous maintenance of specification is a requirement.
  • Work with purchasing to properly implement new stock and remove obsolete stock items. Amend PLEX to ensure all uses of components are accounted for, not just the original use.
  • Maintain inventories of production supplies such as sensors and cables.
  • Other duties as required, including special projects as they arise.
  • Approval of contractor invoices relating to controls work.
 
Educational and Certification Background
 
1 Technologist Classification, Bachelors of Engineering or a Technical Diploma or Certification Essential
2 5+ years of experience with machine controls design, robotic controls, and programming (Motoman and Allan Bradley) Essential
3 Industrial Electrical Apprenticeship (OTAB #442) Electrician An Asset
4 Skilled Trades License Industrial Millwright/Industrial Electrician An asset
 
Personal Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Attributes):
  • Background in robotic controls, machine controls design, and programming
  • Must be willing to work “hands on” in the manufacturing area, be highly motivated, be able to work independently and as part of a team with flexible hours
  • Strong understanding in Production and troubleshooting an asset
  • Must show strong interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication skills, leadership skills, initiative, self-discipline, computer skills (Timeline would be an asset), and time management skills
  • Experience with Fanuc Robots is an asset
  • Significant project management experience
  • Flexible in scheduling and “on call” availability
  • Supply hand tools to perform various job tasks
  • Be familiar with the OH&S Act and Regulations
  • Excellent Communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Knowledge and adherence to relevant procedures and legislation.
  • Ability to Travel.
