Job Description
The Human Resources Department is committed to providing high quality service to all prospective, current and past employees.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position performs a variety of administrative functions associated with the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources Department. This position is responsible for preparing and executing bi-weekly payroll, benefit administration, recruitment support, file management, maintaining accurate and up to date employee database, assist with training sessions and scheduling, is an active member of the workplace wellness committee, and a wide variety of other human resources functions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum two year degree or diploma in Human Resources/PCP, CHRP preferred or in progress, an alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable
Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a Human Resources/Payroll Administrator role is considered an asset
Previous experience in a unionized environment is considered an asset
Strong computer and analytical skills; well versed in MS Office and HRIS database skills (particularly Excel, Access and Word)
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work within tight deadlines
Ability to communicate professionally with others, good communication skills both written and verbal
Ability to work within a team environment and take initiative
Self-directed with superior organizational skills, attention to detail
Demonstrated knowledge of payroll, applicable employee legislation, HR best practices
Ability to use sound judgment when making decisions and to problem solve
Experience with policy, best practice procedures and program development
First Aid/CPR Certification and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention or willingness to obtain certifications
An original copy of a Criminal Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or a local police detachment.
May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry
Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army
NOTE: Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered
Salary and Benefits: Salary commensurate with education and experience, employee group benefits upon successful completion of the probationary period.
Normal Hours of Work: this is a full time position based on 26 hours per week - Monday to Friday. Schedule may vary according to the requirements of responsibilities, a willingness to adjust the weekly work schedule in order to better service our customers is required.
