Presstran's lines of automotive stampings and welding assemblies are used in front motor compartments, underbody structures, truck frame components and front and rear suspensions as well as non-automotive applications.
 
POSITION SUMMARY:
 Using training in quality, operational procedures, and occupational health and safety, the operator is responsible for the actual production of detail and/or finished metal stampings.
               
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
1.     Equivalent to completion of high school and/or related work experience.
2.     Ability to understand, anticipates, and follows directions while exercising maturity of judgement.
3.     Skill gained by operation of a press in a manufacturing environment - over 1 month and including 6 months.
4.     Must be computer literate
5.     Must have a strong mechanical/technical aptitude.
 
 DUTIES:
  1. Operates machinery/equipment through an established process (lifts, moves, stacks, etc.)
  2. Stocks lines as required.
  3. Setup and operation of coil feeder, press, transfer, blank loader.
  4. Ensure raw material (coil material and blanks) are set up for the press.
  5. Operates machinery/equipment by loading single or multiple parts onto fixtures (lifts, moves, stacks, etc.)
  6. Troubleshoots equipment within scope of responsibility.
  7. Be flexible and open to changes in assignment to provide support to other areas of the department.
  8. Trains workers (fulltime or temporary) in machine specific training as required
  9. Ensure WIP meets standards
  10. Takes part in the continuous improvement process to improve productivity and quality (provides suggestions, participates in problem-solving, volunteers on committee or focus group activities, etc.) and focuses on solutions.
  11. Alert Area Leader/Lead Hand of any safety, quality, maintenance or production concerns related to equipment.
  12. Performs First Offs and Last Offs as required.
  13. Performs visual and documented inspections on parts as required by the customer.
  14. Has basic computer software knowledge
  15. Comes to work each day, as scheduled.
  16. Approaches each day and each challenge with a positive attitude.
  17. Conducts themselves in a professional manner when receiving or giving feedback/information, whether it is positive or constructive.
  18. Supports and models the Presstran operational procedures/policies, Employee Handbook and “How We Work Together”, Magna Employee’s Charter, Magna Corporate Constitution.
  19. Follows and complies with all operational procedures/policies as stated in the Employee Handbook, Quality and Environmental programs (e.g. TS16949, ISO14001).
  20. Required to adhere to all Health and Safety programs in accordance with the OHSA.   Follows and ensures the Company’s procedures regarding safety rules and regulations are followed throughout their assigned area.
  21. Takes pride in keeping their work area clean and tidy.
EQUIPMENT and/or PRODUCT FAMILIARITY:
Equipment:  Various heavy presses/operational devices, designated personal protective equipment, T-stands, Forklift, Crane, various customer bins, propane tanks, welder, various hand tools
Product:       Heavy stamping "details", various coolants/lubricants, paint, tool steel, scrap
 
RESPONSIBILITY AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
The operator is required to carry out routine, repetitive tasks under the direction of the Area Leader.  The operator woks on his/her own with routine established by needs of production.  The operator requires good communication skills including written for reporting/completion of forms and for exchange of information on a regular basis with other team members. The operator may be required to lift materials ranging from 0-40 lbs. (depending on process) and is exposed regularly to elements such as noise and temperature.
