Cargill is a large and reputable food company with operations around the world. Cargill Value Added Meats - Foodservice operates a chicken processing plant in London, Ontario and a hatchery in Jarvis, Ontario. The processing plant employs approximately 900 employees and processes 85,000 chickens each day. The hatchery has approximately 70 employees and, on average, produces 150,000 chicks per day. Cargill Value Added Meats - Foodservice operates ground beef processing facilities in Brampton, Ontario and Spruce Grove, Alberta employing approximately 130 employees.
As the 2nd shift Superintendent reporting to the Plant Manager, this person will have overall responsibility of the plant for directing and coordinating plant operations on the afternoon shift and night shift (sanitation), and ensuring the efficient manufacturing of quality products with regard to personal safety, food safety, the environment, and customer satisfaction. This role will provide coaching and mentoring to the management staff on the afternoon and night shifts for all aspects of daily businesses.
Principal Accountabilities:
30% - Stakeholder Engagement and Development – Coach and mentor operations supervisory and management staff on the afternoon and night shift with employee issues, engagement, performance management and talent development; maintain optimum talent pool through active participation in recruitment; assist supervisors in grievances and ensure a consistent application of Company policies and procedures
30% - Operational Excellence – Optimize plant performance through the utilization of scheduling and materials available; continuously evaluate processes to identify problems and assist supervisors in reducing losses or maximizing potential and/or efficiencies
30% - Safety and Food Safety Management – Ensure compliance with all of our food safety regulations and policies (HACCP, GMP’s, Animal Welfare); participate in plant audits and safety/food safety initiatives; review and follow up on all accident or incident reports
10% - Administration – Ensure compliance of departmental budgets; assist in the preparation of capital requests and justifications; explain production variances and identify opportunities to eliminate them
Required:

Post secondary degree or diploma
-
Minimum 5 years experience in a management position
-
Minimum 3 years experience in a unionized manufacturing environment
-
Experience with Lean Manufacturing and/or Continuous Improvement practices
-
Experience implementing and ensuring safety initiatives
-
Ability to work in a cold environment
-
Ability to work around machinery
-
Ability to work >50 hours a week
-
Available to work flexible hours during afternoon and night shifts
Preferred:
- Post-secondary degree in Animal Science, Poultry Science or Operations Management
- 3 or more years management experience in a Food manufacturing facility
- Working knowledge of HACCP
