Western Area Youth Services Inc. is an accredited children’s mental health centre that supports children, youth and their families throughout Southwestern Ontario. Since 1969, over 5,000 youth have lived in our group homes and thousands more have benefited from a variety of community programs in London and Aylmer. Western Area Youth Services has 9 facilities and over 200 staff with a consolidated management team and a single board of directors. Western Area Youth Services is currently recruiting for:

2- Part Time Family Support Workers - (London and Aylmer)

The London position is MALE required.  The successful London candidate could fill both positions, if interested.

Position Summary:

The person in this position is responsible to provide direct support to children, youth and their families in their home and community. The services will include advocacy, teaching, recreation and counselling.

Qualifications:
  • Community College Diploma or Baccalaureate Degree in Human Services or Social Sciences. Students may be considered
  • One year experience working with children, youth and families is preferred
Human Relations:
  • Understands and interprets the needs of each client assigned.  Motivates the child/youth, the family and community services to best serve the client’s needs.  Relates well with all level of staff, both internal and external to the agency.
  • Relates with sensitivity to children, youth and families
  • Skills include tact, diplomacy, persuasion and patience
  • Have the competency to work with clients of diverse backgrounds regardless of their gender, ethnicity, race, sexual orientation, physical and mental abilities, religious beliefs and socioeconomic class
Hours of Work
  • Part time status is based on an average of up to 32 hours a week
  • The hours of work for this position are flexible to meet the needs of clients
  • Evening and weekend work is required  
The position requires a valid driver’s license and current certification in Canadian Red Cross Standard First Aid/AED/Level C CPR.
 
As part of the recruitment process, the selected candidates will be required to provide three employment references and successfully complete a background check which includes a police records check and vulnerable sector search completed within the last 30 days.
