Job Description

Positioned at the heart of the arts, cultural and educational communities, the London Children’s Museum (CM) provides positive, hands-on learning experiences to children and families. As Canada’s first children’s museum, our mission is to foster a community of innovation where children learn, connect and grow through play. Each year, the Children’s Museum welcomes nearly 90,000 visitors who participate in school education programs, workshops, day camps, self-guided visits and more.

Position Description: Reporting to the Education Manager and Education Specialist, the Bike Camp (VEA) is responsible for the planning, coordination and facilitation of the Children’s Museum Bike Day Camp, designed specifically for children aged 9 – 12. This role will ensure that the campers have an extraordinary summer day camp experience, while gaining new skills, building community connections and making new friends. The Bike Camp (VEA) is responsible for guiding campers through the exploration of London bike paths, and will teach campers new skills such as bike maintenance, road safety and healthy living.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement the Bike Day Camp, offering campers a unique and awesome experience!
·         Plan and deliver programming that supports the development of physical literacy, and encourage lifelong interest in living an active and healthy lifestyle
  • Supervise and participate in both onsite and offsite activities including biking, swimming, experiments, crafts, songs and games
  • Encourage and support an inclusive and respectful atmosphere for all campers
  • Be a helpful, positive and engaged member of the Children’s Museum staff team
  • Provide and model extraordinary service to all Children’s Museum campers, visitors and guests 
  • Deliver other high-quality, fun and educational Children’s Museum programs as needed, including demonstrations, special events and outreach activities
  • Accept other duties as assigned
Skills and Interests
  • Enthusiasm for children, families and the experiential learning philosophy practiced by the CM
  • Experience working with children in a programming environment (previous day camp experience an asset!)
  • Demonstrated interest and skills in biking, physical activity and healthy living
  • Interest and knowledge of science, history and the arts
  • Strong leadership and teamwork abilities
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt in a fast pace, busy working environment
  • Excellent written & oral communication skills
  • Ability to work in a safe and effective manner
 
Position Requirements
  • Child & Infant First Aid and CPR training
  • Valid police check
  • Be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or a person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the immigration and refugee protection act
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial legislation and regulations
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays and some Friday nights
  • Bilingualism an asset
  • Training in Fundamental Movement Skills is an asset
 
Education: Secondary or post-secondary education.
Compensation: $11.25/hour, 37.5 hours per week
Start date: Monday July 20, 2015
End date: Friday August 28, 2015
