Part-time Professor, Manufacturing Engineering - CNC Machining (MAN 201400289)
School of Applied Science and Technology

Employment Group:  Faculty
Hours:  Monday through Friday – 4-6 daytime hours per week
Closing Date:  Open Until Filled
 
Note:  This is a part-time temporary position starting January 2015 until April 2015.
 
The School of Applied Science and Technology is seeking qualified instructors to teach a course which provides students with Manual and CAD/CAM part programming skills and practical experience on Vertical Machining Center/Turning Center machine tool processes. Students will be expected to write, edit, trouble shoot and prove out their own programs.
 

The successful candidate must be competent to instruct the following:

  • Extensive working knowledge of standard manual machining equipment as it applies to a manufacturing environment
  • The function of the various components in a spindle drive system, a servo feed drive and a position control system as they relate to a CNC Vertical Machining Center/Turning Center machine tool
  • Writing and transferring into the CNC Vertical Machining Center/Turning Center control, simulating and editing CNC programs using ISO, G and M code programming
  • Utilization and arrangement of layers to assist in the creation and labeling/dimensioning of CAD/CAM files
  • Verification of CAD/CAM Vertical Machining Center tool paths and programs as well as producing an ISO CNC code file from a CAD/CAM Vertical Machining Center programming file via the Post Processor
  • Must be proficient in programming, set-up and operation of CNC Machining Centers and Turning Centers
  • Advanced Mastercam skills (Machining Center and Turning Center) in both geometry and tool path creation (2-D and 3-D).  Multi-axis programming would be a definite asset.
  • Working knowledge of SolidWorks would be an asset

  • Excellent communicator
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to relate effectively to a wide variety of learners
  • Strong technical/computer skills and familiarity with educational technologies are required
  • Teaching experience with hybrid and/or online delivery preferred
  • Related industry work experience, previous college teaching experience and knowledge of curriculum design and student evaluations are assets
 

SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary 3 year diploma/degree in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 3 years recent, relevant experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
