About Western Communications
The Western Communications team provides strategic advice to university senior leadership, faculty, staff and teams of internal and external communications staff across Western in order to build the University’s brand on a local, national and global scale.

Western Communications has a renewed strategic focus for its work and is building a high-performing leadership team to elevate Western’s profile as a highly impactful research-intensive university that attracts some of the brightest minds from around the world.

As part of this strategic renewal, the team is searching for an Executive Director, Advancement Communications & Marketing.

Responsibilities
This role is critical to Western Communications’ evolution, helping to build and foster growth in the team.  In partnership with University Advancement colleagues, this leader will set a new bar for high-level strategy and planning for alumni and development communications and marketing at Western.

The Executive Director, Advancement Communications & Marketing will lead a portfolio responsible for communications and marketing programs that instill pride in Western among its alumni, donors and potential donors worldwide, to inspire increased engagement and giving.

The successful candidate will be a strong leader who can build and foster the growth of a high-performing advancement communications and marketing team and provide strategic oversight for the development of top quality advancement communications and marketing materials that advance the University’s brand strategy and fundraising goals.
 
Ideal candidate
The ideal candidate will have an undergraduate degree in marketing, fundraising management, communications or related field, with 10 years’ experience working in advancement communications and extensive experience managing or leading advancement communications programs, projects and teams.

You bring with you expert knowledge of the necessary building blocks for outstanding advancement communications and marketing plans, strategies and materials, including expertise in producing, writing and editing for a wide variety of audiences and channels.

You must be a confident and strategic leader with strong interpersonal and communications skills to lead a high performing team, and to establish and build healthy, respectful working relationships with academics, senior leaders, and other key stakeholders.
