Junior Accountant
Location: Exeter
Position Type: Full-Time Contract - Potential for Full Time
 

Job Responsibilities
  • Gathers, analyzes and prepares data for financial reports which may involve the application of advanced principles of accounting.
  • Prepares journal entries and account reconciliations and analyses for both month-end and year-end closing.
  • Reconcile and analyze trial balance accounts monthly, review reconciliations prepared by others, and promptly research and correct any variances
  • Maintain books and records in accordance with department policies and procedures and GAAP
  • Identify exceptions and problems affecting accounting records, communicate same to management, and assist in their resolution
  • Assists with preparation of financial data presented in the monthly package for the Board of Directors.
  • Ensures compliance with internal controls
  • Conducts internal audit procedures using risk based auditing principles and special audit projects as required.
  • Prepare clear, complete and accurate accounting reports and working papers with high attention to detail
  • Prepares working papers for the annual financial statement audit and annual tax returns.
  • Prepares and files various tax and regulatory reporting as required.
  • Assists Controller with a variety of other tasks, as needed.
  • Dependent on experience, payroll duties may be assigned.
 
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • 3+ years related work experience
  • Completion of college or university program in accounting, finance or related field
  • Working towards CPA, CA, CGA, CMA an asset
  • Intermediate knowledge of ASPE and GAAP
  • Intermediate knowledge or corporate tax, payroll tax and commodity taxes
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Ability to perform complex accounting and financial record-keeping activities.
  • Competent at analyzing data and drawing logical conclusions
  • Adept at working with management to influence/facilitate change, implement strategy and accomplish objectives
  • Possess exceptional organizational skills and the ability to effectively manage time and to multi-task in a deadline oriented environment
  • Display strong interpersonal skills along with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
