Cargill is a large and reputable food company with operations around the world. Cargill Value Added Meats - Foodservice operates a chicken processing plant in London, Ontario and a hatchery in Jarvis, Ontario. The processing plant employs approximately 900 employees and processes 85,000 chickens each day. The hatchery has approximately 70 employees and, on average, produces 150,000 chicks per day. Cargill Value Added Meats - Foodservice operates ground beef processing facilities in Brampton, Ontario and Spruce Grove, Alberta employing approximately 130 employees.
As the Occupational Health Nurse, reporting to the Health Services Team Lead, you will be responsible for providing occupational health services including education, promotion of positive health models, and treatment of stakeholder illness and injury, while adhering to provincial legislation and professional association guidelines. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, energetic team player who enjoys a fast-paced work environment.
Cargill will consider reimbursing the incumbent's tuition for the completion of his or her Occupational Health Nurse Certification.

Cargill will consider reimbursing the incumbent's tuition for the completion of his or her Occupational Health Nurse Certification.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Triage all individuals reporting to the Health Unit and conduct physical and oral assessment of injuries and illnesses
- Determine required treatment and provide primary care for occupational and non-occupational injuries, deciding need for assessment by company physician
- Implement care plans and provide follow-up nursing care as indicated
- Conduct pre-placement and periodic medical assessments and complete documentation
- Organize immunization clinics and participate in other occupational health maintenance programs as indicated
- Develop objectives and implement programs in health promotion, maintenance, and rehabilitation
- Conduct health and safety orientations for new stakeholders including proper use of personal protective equipment
- Liaise with health and service agencies in the community to ascertain services and exchange information
- Assist the Safety Benefits Coordinator and Third Party Provider to monitor work related injury/illness and Weekly Indemnity claims
- Maintain accurate and up to date records in the medical tracking system
- Work closely with Human Resources and Safety Benefits Coordinator to ensure records are correct regarding stakeholder absences
- Participate in professional nursing organizations and seek out professional growth and development opportunities
Required:
- Current registration with the Ontario College of Nurses
- Possession of valid First Aid/CPR
- Knowledge of provincial legislation including the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act
- Understanding of laws related to the confidentiality of medical information
- Strong nursing physical assessment skills and documentation
- Working knowledge of audiometric, pulmonary function, as well as general medical equipment
- Excellent communication, organization, decision-making, and interpersonal skills
- Available to work a rotating shift of days and afternoons, the occasional Saturday and a night shift when required
- Available to travel to other locations when required
- Strong computer skills
- Must be legally entitled to work for Cargill in Canada
- Certificate in Occupational Health Nursing
- 2 or more years of related experience
- AED certification and knowledge of Parklane
