Job Description
Please note, this is a temporary contract opportunity with an anticipated end date of September 30th, 2015. Also, this is a wholly grant-funded role.

The department of Computer Science has strong academic and research programs, coupled with award winning faculty to become a leader in its field. We are active in both traditional and emerging areas of research in computer science and offer a wide variety of undergraduate programs.
The Applications Developer/Programmer will be responsible for the development of, and extensions to, the web-based User Interface (UI) platform for Research and Educational Applications in Laboratory Mechatronics (REALM). The incumbent will be responsible for the design and implementation of both front and back end components. The back end will be built with a Java MVC framework such as Spring. The front end will be constructed from standards-based technologies such as HTML5 and JavaScript, along with libraries such as Angular. The incumbent will be required to work with users to create effective user interface solutions. Over the course of this project, the outcomes from these remote experiments will be compared with simulated and "hands on" experiences.
Education:
- BSc in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or Software Engineering; Honours Degree preferred
Experience:
- Two years' software design experience in Java and Java interface toolkits developing web-based applications, services and interface design
- Demonstrated experience in Web MVC Frameworks and Web UI Toolkits
Skills & Expertise:
- Demonstrated ability in the development of scientific applications
- Strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to complete detailed analytics and reports
- Ability to provide effective web-based solutions by using imaginative approaches where constructive thinking and innovation are required
- Demonstrated ability to research/investigate issues and resolve problems
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate effective and collegial relationships
- Ability to take initiative and work collaboratively in a team-based environment
- Ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities and projects
