Supervisor, Occupational Health & Safety

Full-time, Non-union position

Reporting to the Superintendent of Human Resources and General Counsel, the incumbent will develop and implement health and safety programs, lead initiatives to reduce identified risks, and ensure compliance with governmental health and safety, and other, regulatory requirements.  The incumbent will be instrumental in promoting a culture of health and safety within a diverse multi-union environment.  The incumbent will coordinate health and safety initiatives and training for all Board employees.  

Qualifications

• Relevant post-secondary educational background, such as a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent related field
• Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) designation is preferred
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience, in health and safety management, preferably in a unionized education sector, including the development and implementation of health and safety programs
• Solid understanding and sound working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, WSIB and other related codes and legislation
• Direct staff supervisory experience is preferred, along with the ability to be part of a team
• Strong research, analytical, problem-solving, strategic thinking, planning, organizational and conflict resolution skills
• Comprehensive knowledge of collective agreements, human resources practices, Board policies and procedures would be an asset
• Superior interpersonal and communication skills along with proven experience building collaborative working relationships and providing exemplary customer service to a diverse group of stakeholders
• Knowledge and understanding of the complex and reciprocal connections among different elements of the Board’s organization and the role of Health and Safety in supporting the delivery of exemplary programs and services
• Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation as extensive travel throughout the Board’s jurisdiction is required

Salary range: $74,273 to $84,401 (pending experience)
