Job Description

Reporting to the Department manager, the successful candidate will provide all required assistance to the Department Manager to help assure that all objectives and goals of the department are met or exceeded. This position is intended to be essentially a training program for future department managers.  With his/her responsibilities the Assistant Department Manager must ensure quality customer service to all Farm Boy employees, customers and suppliers and perform all responsibilities in a manner consistent with the Farm Boy Vision, Mission and the Farm Boy Way.
 
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  1. Provide superior customer service and deal with any serious customer complaints or concerns as well as teach and empower all staff to do the same
  2. Assist in coordinating department operations ensuring that goals are communicated to the staff and attained
  3. Assist in organizing and leading regular staff meetings and coordinating department activity to ensure that goals are properly communicated and attained
  4. Promote company policy (as communicated in meetings, policy and procedure manuals, employee handbooks, written directives) and ensure compliance
  5. Foster employee development, motivation and recognition
  6. Schedule staff and verify attendance and payroll records
  7. Assist Service Department Manager in processing payroll upon request
  8. Oversee the readiness of the department, the appearance of staff and the cleanliness of retail areas at all times
  9. Immediately report any anomalies in pricing to the responsible manager for correction
  10. Perform opening and closing procedures for the department as required
  11. Perform office and inventory management functions
  12. May be requested to undertake other related duties on a periodic basis
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Typically requires completion of a post-secondary program with an emphasis in business, plus a minimum of 1 year of progressively responsible supervisory or management experience in a similar role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • A passion for food retailing and people
  • Superior customer service skills
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and analytical skills
  • Ability to learn manual and automated systems/tools
  • Skilled at handling complaints and communicating with upset, irate or irrational people
  • Experienced in developing and coordinating work schedules for others
  • Good judgment and decision-making abilities
  • Experience in working with various computer software programs; e.g., Microsoft Suite
  • Clear and effective communication style, both written and oral
