Summary of Duties Reports to the Chemist. Schedules and performs systematic sampling surveys, performs complex analyses and calculations and prepares reports. Analyses must be precise and accurate to maintain ISO accreditation.
Work Performed Schedules systematic sampling surveys of industrial process wastes, leachate, ground water, and receiving bodies of water.
 
Performs analysis of industrial effluents, surface waters, well water, groundwater at landfills, sewage and pollution control plant samples. Uses and maintains required sophisticated laboratory equipment including: Gas Chromatograph Mass Spectrometer, Ion Coupled Plasma Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer, etc. Calculates and interprets results. Analyses must be performed accurately and precisely and within quality control parameters to maintain accreditation.
 
Maintains inventory of chemicals and supplies.
 
Downloads data into the Laboratory Information Management system, maintains associated records, including logs, graphs and sketches.
 
Backup for Laboratory Technician Outside as required.
 
Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications Three year Community College Environmental Technologist Diploma
Experience Two to three years' related experience.
Specialized Training and Licenses
  • Valid Driver's Licence -Class G
  • Demonstrated proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets and various software.
  • Experience with chemical environmental lab procedures involving wet chemistry and instrument analyses methods including Ion Coupled Plasma atomic absorption spectrometry.
 
Compensation Range $24.80 to $35.40 (Level 11)

This is a permanent part-time position being filled on a temporary part-time basis for up to 2 years.
 
Hours of Work: Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
