Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Chaplain provides Chaplaincy services to the clients and staff of Mission Services of London, by providing pastoral care, Spiritual counseling, Spiritual formation, chapel services and bible study.  The Chaplain is accountable for the overall direction and development of Spiritual programs. The Chaplain will participate as part of the Senior Leadership Team.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Maintain responsibility for the development of Christian programming including worship services, spiritual counseling and Christian education for Mission Services
  • Provide individual or group guidance and support for clients and staff where and when required
  • Provide chaplaincy services to MSL clients-staff in a respectful and non- judgmental manner
  • Provide spiritual guidance to clients, staff and volunteers of all denominations
  • Advocate issues on behalf of the well-being and legitimate interests of the clients
  • Hospital and prison visitations as required
  • Provide spiritual formation for Quintin Warner programs, clients and staff
  • Lead Spiritual formation/prayer/chapel services for staff with the aim of promoting and  encouraging spiritual growth
  • Organize seasonal and/or spiritual events as required
  • Liaise with various ministerial groups and churches in the community
  • Empower, support and encourage all staff to continue deepening the culture of competent work life, collegiality, and respect for the clients, that reflects the Christian foundation and values of Mission Services of London
 

Education

Completed studies/training in theology, Pastoral counseling and spiritual care.

Experience

      • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience working in a similar environment
      • Experience leading worship and preaching
      • Shelter and/or Prison and Frontline client support experience considered assets
      • Has a strong Christian faith, belongs to and attends a local congregation/parish
    •   Is hospitable to and open to people of various Christian backgrounds as well to those of    other religious traditions, or no religious tradition
        • Solid standing in the Church through ecclesiastical endorsement
    • Experience in sound Biblical knowledge and interpretation and preaching in an accessible, engaging, down to earth manner
    • Ability, commitment, interest and stamina in ministering to clients with varying and significant    challenges such as homelessness, abuse, addictions, poverty, mental health issues, etc.
        • Awareness of and experience in addiction issues/mental health/depression, etc.
        • Ability to work with clients on an “as needed” basis
        • Grief counselling
        • Crisis intervention and suicide prevention
        • Empathetic, personable, compassionate and ability to read people and situations effectively
