SUMMARY
Supervises the design and repair of all new and existing tooling at the IPEX London plant.  Ensures that proper design standards and procedures are followed in order to supply the company with cost effective tooling that will produce a quality part.
 
PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES 

• Analyzes tooling problems and repair to eliminate flash, damage and sizing issues to provide a better quality part.  Implement approved recommendations
• Analyzes and revise the design of existing tooling to ensure the moulds perform better and to provide a better quality tool in the most cost effective manner.
• Designs new moulds and end of arm tooling for the robots and supervises the external design of new moulds.
• Coordinates the internal and external scheduling of new and existing tooling repairs for production in an effective and timely manner.  
• Administers documentation for schedules, tooling repairs, purchase orders and quotations, including generating records for schedules, quotes, purchase orders and tooling repair.
• Orders necessary equipment and components for the tool room that is required to perform repairs to repair tooling.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS

• Completion of College or University preferably with an engineering technician and tool and die maker certificate and computer/CAD courses or Die / Mould Maker. 
• Knowledge of tool design, machine shop experience, computer skills, cad courses, tool maker, supervisory, computers
• 8-10 years tool design in plastic injection moulding preferably with 5- 10 years in a supervisory position.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and supervisory skills.
• Proficient with Word, Lotus, Excel and CAD program.
• Experience with Tool/Mould design, standard information (CSA, NSF) and technical writing.

COMPLEXITY & JUDGEMENT

• Regularly encounters tool room issues which involve multiple choice options; but through prior exposure, experience and established procedures/policies can determine the most appropriate course of action.
• Different options are experienced when revising or repairing tooling.  Some are more complicated than others.  Must know what to look for and be able to analyze the problems in order to come up with a suitable solution. 
• Work involves both routine and non-routine tasks requiring different and unrelated methods within authorized limits.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

• Job exits to have primary responsibility for all tool room activities at one plant location.   
• Supervises twelve (12) hourly employees and one (1) salaried including,  Design Technician and Tool Room Personnel. Reports to Technical Manager, London Fittings Plant.

CONTACTS
Interacts on a daily basis with direct reports and plant manager and supervisors.  Approximately daily interacts with external tool shops and suppliers as required.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS
Incumbent spends almost 50% of his time in the plant environment requiring varying degrees of moderate physical labour.  Lifting, pulling, pushing heavy objects (50-250 lbs), standing and walking cover the majority of the work.  Personal safety is affected by exposure to heat, dust, noise levels and the use of equipment such as sharp blades and presses.  Considerable amount of sensory attention is required.  Limited control of work pace and unpredictable workflow bring considerable stresses to this position.
