Job Description

Finance Coordinator
Violence Against Women Services Elgin County offers 24 hour safety, emergency shelter, and counselling for women and children.  Every woman and child in need is able to count on our services offered at locations in Aylmer, St. Thomas, and West Lorne. There is no wait time.  Help is immediate, informed, respectful, and compassionate.  Each year over 2,000 people find the help they seek from our agency. 
 
In partnership with Prime Management Group Inc., Violence Against Women Services Elgin County is currently seeking a highly skilled candidate with financial experience in a non-profit environment coupled with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to join our agency in a full time capacity.  
 
Key responsibilities:
  • Maintain effective, up to date, and accurate systems of financial control for the agency
  • Develop the annual operating budget with the Executive Director and monitor budget revenue and expenditures on a monthly basis
  • Create monthly financial statements and generate analytical reports for the Executive Director
  • Complete all quarterly reporting requirements with accuracy and within timelines established
  • Complete year end reconciliation for auditor and funders
  • Complete bank deposits, remittances, reconciliations and accounts payable
  • Complete all purchasing, per procurement policies, to meet service and administrative needs
  • Maintain effective, up to date, and accurate human resource systems for the agency including: payroll and benefit administration, employment contracts, and personnel records  
  • Complete monthly updates to the service database regarding utilization, service picture, and evaluation of services and generate analytical reports for the Executive Director
  • Ensure effective systems and secure storage for all agency records including: service and evaluation data, funder and donor reporting requirements, and personnel records
 
Qualifications:
  • 3 to 5 years of financial experience with preference given to those with non-profit work experience
  • Relevant post-secondary education with preference given to those with third level CPA courses
  • Extensive knowledge of current non-profit accounting practices and funder requirements and experience with budgeting
  • Strong analytical ability necessary to evaluate systems, identify trends, make recommendations, and implement strategies to enhance financial best practices and operational performance
  • Excellent computer and database skills including advanced knowledge of Excel, Access, and ACCPAC
  • Evident high ethical standards, mature judgment, and ability to manage confidential and sensitive issues in a professional manner that is attentive to safety needs and management of risk
  • Understanding of the reality of violence against women and children and commitment to the agency vision, mission, and values
