Civil and Drainage Engineer
(full-time permanent position)
Location: London, Ontario

Job Description:
The successful candidate, under the direction of a senior engineer, will be responsible for the engineering analysis and design for a variety of civil, land development, stormwater and drainage projects. Flexibility exists in terms of the role and the experience level however a civil engineering background with a firm understanding of stormwater hydrology and willingness to contribute to Municipal Drainage projects carried out under the Ontario Drainage Act should be considered a minimum.

What you will do:
  • Completion of hydrologic and hydraulic calculations
  • Preparation of preliminary and detailed designs of stormwater and runoff conveyance systems, including stormwater management
  • Site grading and roadway design as well as watermain and sewer sizing
  • Working understanding and continued development in the application of design standards including MECP, Ontario Drainage Act and local development standards
  • Coordination of regulatory approvals for projects including local conservation authorities, MECP, DFO, MNRF and others
  • Coordination with utility agencies to support projects
  • Mentor and support young staff in their career development (depending on experience level), as well as receive mentoring and support for your own development
  • Preparation of engineering proposal submissions
  • Preparation of written reports under the Ontario Drainage Act
  • Review and ensure quality designs are submitted to the clients (depending on experience level)
  • Preparation of tender packages and project cost estimates
  • Contract administration and/or construction inspection including review of shop drawings
  • Assist with delivery of other civil projects supporting our Land Development, Structural, Linear or Water/Wastewater design teams, as required
What you will need:
  • Graduate of a civil engineering program or equivalent
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario, or ability to obtain a license in the near future
  • Hydrologic and Hydraulic design experience including open channel and pipe design, stormwater retaining facilities, floodplain analysis including culvert conveyance, erosion/sediment control features and watershed studies
  • Past experience with agricultural drainage and the Ontario Drainage Act will be considered an asset
  • Experience responding to requests for proposals (RFPs) and assembling engineering proposals
  • Experience with administration of construction contracts
  • Strong organizational, oral, written communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to objectively evaluate problems and opportunities and think outside the box
  • Motivated to continuously learn and broaden their experience to enhance their engineering knowledge and qualifications
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and working knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Knowledge and past application of hydrologic and hydraulic modeling such as HEC-RAS, MIDUSS, HY-8 software
  • Possess a valid driver's license
