Job Description

Violence Against Women Services Elgin County offers 24 hour safety in our emergency shelter and counselling for women and children.  Each and every woman and child in need is able to count on our services in Aylmer, St. Thomas, and West Lorne. There is no wait time.  Help is immediate, informed, respectful, and compassionate.  Each year over 2,000 people find the help they seek.  We are seeking a highly skilled person with a warm presence and strong desire to work closely with a small team to achieve excellence in the service of women and children who have been abused to the following position:
 
 
INTERIM CHILD WITNESS COUNSELLOR
COMMUNITY BASED COUNSELLING PROGRAM
(Contract for Parental Leave)
 
The following qualifications apply:
  • Post secondary degree in social work or equivalent in related field
  • Demonstrated skill and experience in individual and group counselling with children and mothers including crisis intervention, clinical assessment, and trauma informed practice
  • Sound analysis of the issue of violence against women, including its impact on women and children
  • Full knowledge of child development and criminal and family law pertaining to women who have been abused and their children
  • Excellent case management abilities and communication skills both verbal and written
  • Experience in public speaking and community education
     
    It is necessary to have the ability to work autonomously and be part of a team in a woman-centered organization that seeks to end the violation of women & children in all its forms, and in so doing create safer communities for everyone. Clear Criminal Reference Check, valid driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle, willingness to work at least two scheduled evening per week, and current CPR/First Aid Certification are mandatory.
