Job Description
The Category Analyst performs an important function within the Merchandising Department. This position works with the Category Manager to drive all category management initiatives and ensure the success of category strategies. The Category Analyst is a key liaison between vendors, marketing, store planning, supply chain, all other support groups and stores to develop, execute and communicate key category growth strategies in stores.
Responsibilities:
- Provide analysis and strategic planning for advertising, planning and promotions for specific categories.
- Work with business partners to analyze, develop and negotiate key category growth strategies both for TSC stores and vendors.
- Support the cross-functional team in the development and execution of category strategies.
- Support strategic planning of reviews determining importance of business, growth potential and key vendors to partner with.
- Analyze product and pricing competitiveness with the Category Manager about pricing tactic strategies and product assortment.
- Develop strong working and strategic relationships with the vendors to ensure TSC is delivering our category strategies to the consumer.
- Work closely with Marketing and the Category Manager to develop advertising strategies which drives sales and develops the growth of the category.
- Analyze and recommend key brand and assortment strategies for in-store presentation delivering on the overall category strategy for stores
- Support Supply Chain in developing key logistics strategies supporting the category strategies and stores requirements.
- Lead, with the Category Manager, the day to day functions of the categories– new item selection, samples, ad info, cost changes, store info. etc.
- Coordinate and collect internal/external data and perform analysis to support category planning – make recommendations for changes as required
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Business Degree or Diploma
- Strong analytical skills combined with ability to provide recommendation for category growth.
- Excellent communication skills with ability to work effectively with business partners and all levels of team members
- Self starter efficient and organized in a fast paced exciting environment
- Prioritization, time management and multi tasking are essential to meet deadlines
- Able to gather information and translate information in business insights that can be easily understood andutilized
- Detailed oriented with the ability to “think outside the box”
- Energetic, self motivated individual who is a proven team leader
- Proficient computer skills
- Retail Experience Considered an asset
