Job Description

Doug Coleman Trucking Ltd. is seeking a FLEET RECRUITER to work out of it's London Terminal. 
 
Responsibilities
- Execute the driver recruiting function to help ensure the fleet size target, as outlined in the company strategy is achieved.
- Effective recruiting of qualified professional drivers that meet our standards and our need for stability in the driver work force. 
- Interview, screen and qualify potential driver candidates and make contingent offers to those applicants meeting DOT and company hiring standards/criteria.
- Maintain effective communication with current driver pool to address driver concerns and to facilitate driver transition between routes or other Doug Coleman terminals in order to promote driver retention
- Conduct exit interviews in order to identify key driver complaints and to identify trends within the fleet in order to effect change which assist in driver retention within the entire fleet  

Define Role Tasks
- Initiates and attracts new drivers through effective advertising, consistent networking and regular contact with potential candidates.
- Receives and responds to inquiries for driving positions in a timely manner
- Serve as initial contact for all driver applicants.
- Use interview and questioning techniques to determine if the applicant is qualified for the position.
- Answer applicant questions regarding company policies and procedures including pay and benefits.
- Prioritize qualified applications for processing purposes
- Communicate daily within department on progress of application status
- Maintain contact with applicant, make initial offer of employment and schedule orientation.
- Follow up with qualified applicants who have turned down initial employment offer.
- Communicate daily with Supervisor regarding progress on potential candidates.
- Maintains and disseminates accurate recruiting records.
- Respond to existing driver issues by identifying key root cause problems and reporting to Supervisor with concern in an attempt to promote driver retention
- Maintains and disseminates accurate driver resignation records
- Other duties as assigned. 

Relationships with Peers
- Works co-operatively and promotes an effective working environment with other members of the Safety, Driver Resources team to ensure ongoing department success.
- Maintains a high level of open communication and cooperation with other departments.
- To work and participate in other cross functional teams 

Describe Decision-making Scope
- Makes recommendations to the department manager on new driver candidates.
- Adheres to the company policies and procedures and makes recommendations for changes.
- Makes recommendations to various terminal mangers about possible driver changes to assist in driver retention 

Cross-functional Relationships and Authorities
- Maintains positive cross-functional relationships with all departments
- Promotes a long-term approach with drivers to reduce turnover
- Participates when appropriate in various initiatives that help promote positive driver relations thus impacting on reducing turnover ratios and improving safety practices. 

Knowledge and Skill Requirements
- Previous recruiting experience.
- Trucking industry experience.
- Previous AZ driving experience an asset.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a willingness to contact new prospective drivers.
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment
- Well organized, detail oriented self-starter.
- Proficient PC skills.
- Some weekend work required.
- Some overnight travel required.
- Flexibility in working hours required
