PART-TIME EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
SCHOOL BASED LITERACY PROGRAM FACILITATOR

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Literacy Program Facilitator will provide support and assistance in school based literacy programs for children in grades 1-3 at a designated school. The Successful candidate will assist with various components of program including setting up and cleaning up.
This is a part-time position, approximately 14 hours per week, commencing late September/early October until June 2, 2016. Ideal candidates MUST BE able to commit to the following schedule.
Monday--3:00-5:00 pm
Tuesday--11:30-5:00 pm
Wednesday--3:00-5:00 pm
Thursday--11:30-5:00 pm
In addition to hours listed above, candidate must be available to work Wednesdays 2-8 pm when LUSO offers Family Math program in the community. Family Math is a 6 week program, offered 3 times per year.
REPORTING TO: Literacy & Resource Program Coordinator
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- The provision of literacy/numeracy skill building support to children in small groups (typically Grades 1-3)
- Attendance and participation Training/Information sharing sessions throughout the duration of employment (may include evenings and weekends).
- Assisting with the development and implementation of program activities that build skills, enhance literacy, support literacy needs of students attending the program.
- Fostering the self-esteem and confidence of the students.
- Supporting and maintaining a friendly, non-intimidating, and positive learning environment.
- Willingness to work at multiple school locations and flexibility to adapt to changes and potential school location changes as needs arise.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Field of Study: human care field of study ie. Social Service Worker, Child and Youth Worker, Social Work
- Previous experience working with children in grades 1-3 (approximately ages 6-9)
- Be friendly, enjoy working with children, and have a genuine interest in their academic success.
- Understand the goals of student-centered learning and be willing to try new and creative ways of teaching
- Possess excellent written, interpersonal and oral communication skills.
- Have a fundamental knowledge of math and language disciplines.
- Basic computer skills are an asset
- Enjoy working with people of diverse backgrounds.
- Successfully complete a Vulnerable Persons Police Screening and Records Check (at own cost)
- Access to a reliable vehicle an asset
- CPR and First Aid Certification an asset
