SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Vice-President, Growth, the Associate Vice President (AVP), Marketing & Communications will provide strategic leadership to a team of highly skilled marketing and communications professionals. Working with partners across the institution, the AVP will lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of the organization’s marketing and communications strategies.

This is a critical role in Huron University’s continued success and growth.
Specifically, the incumbent is responsible for operating with a strategic mindset, getting ahead of complex challenges while seeing to future possibilities and translating them into breakthrough strategies, capitalizing on Huron’s distinct brand.

The AVP, Marketing and Communications is a respected leader guided by clear values, ethics, professionalism and is adept at building strong relationships and is valued as a trusted advisor. The incumbent will provide direct leadership to a Manager, Digital Advertising & Strategy, Manager, Communications, Graphic Designer, and Marketing and Communications Interns.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Operating with a strategic mindset, getting ahead of complex challenges while seeing to future possibilities and translating them into breakthrough strategies, capitalizing on Huron’s distinct brand.
  • Building partnerships and working collaboratively with stakeholders internally at all levels, and with key external contacts and stakeholders.
  • Anticipating evolving dynamics in the market and leveraging key differentiators in the market;
  • Applies knowledge of business and the marketplace to advance the institution’s goals.
  • Oversee the development of long-term, proactive marketing and communications strategies and plans that align with Huron’s vision, promises, and strategies and build, enhance, and protect its reputation.
  • Overall design, development and delivery of Huron’s marketing and communications strategy.
  • Guide the architecture and adoption of an audience engagement strategy and create integrated marketing plans for Huron’s distinct audiences.
  • Create a content marketing strategy and implementation plan for Huron’s direct to consumer and business-to- business engagements.
  • Oversee and advise on all marketing and communications (internal and external) campaigns, reporting on their efficacy and ensuring continuous improvement and decision-making based on data.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Post secondary degree or diploma in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing or similar discipline.
  • Equivalent, proven experience will also be considered.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in media and/or government relations with an emphasis on issues management, messaging and positioning.
  • Extensive expertise in leading successful marketing and communication teams at a senior level in large complex organizations with diverse service areas.
  • Proven success in developing and executing content marketing strategies.
  • Domain expertise in digital marketing and communications tools, technology and platforms.
  • Experience at developing both B2B and B2C seamless, omnichannel marketing strategies.
  • Demonstrated success in optimizing the use of owned, earned, and paid media channels to deliver desired results.
  • Expert understanding of and demonstrated experience successfully leading crisis communications efforts.
  • Knowledge of freedom of information and protection of privacy legislation.
  • Experience with media training and being a media spokesperson.
  • Demonstrated success in providing senior-level guidance and leadership to a high-functioning team.
  • Ability to work with diverse communities with respect, sensitivity, creativity, innovation, and cultural understanding.
