This is a Temporary Full-Time opportunity (Up to 6 months)

                                                                                   
Position Statement:
Under the direction of the Manager, Communications, the Digital Marketing Specialist supports the Marketing and Communications (M & C) team in the planning, design, creative production, monitoring and evaluation of marketing and conmmunications content and materials across all London Public Library (Library) departments. Using graphic design, video production, photography and other current digital creative skills, this position builds collaborative internal and external relationships in order to drive awareness and use of the Library's resources and to build positive engagement with the community and stakeholders.

Accountabilities
 
  1. Social Media and Digital Creative
 
  • Develops, executes and evaluates digital marketing plans for all Library departments, working with the M & C team and designated internal and external stakeholders to ensure plans support strategic priorities and initiatives.
  • Follows established brand and design standards.
  • Plans and produces creative content for the Library’s social media platforms and other digital platforms, including content such as original video, animations, photography, graphic design and other emerging digital creative trends.
  • Creates written copy for social media and other digital platforms.
  • Ensures all accessibility needs related to social media and digital marketing are identified, addressed effectively and meet accessibility requirements.
  • Schedules content to platforms directly and in advance using scheduling platforms.
  • Monitors platforms regularly for comments and other user generated content. Responds to, shares and creates new content from user generated content. Escalates comments and questions to appropriate staff as required, following established guidelines.
  • Analyzes and evaluates performance of digital marketing plans and content, providing reports to the M & C team and recommending actions to improve performance.
  • Researches audience needs in order to develop communications and communications strategies that meet these needs.
  • Purchases digital content (photos, video, etc.) as needed, following guidelines and procedures and reporting to the Manager, Communications.
  • Interviews, photographs and films staff, patrons, stakeholders and community members following established procedures.
  • Develops, maintains and improves system-wide processes and procedures related to social media and digital marketing, under the direction of the Manager, Communications.
  • Communicates with, trains and supports staff in contributing content for social media and digital platforms as appropriate and in understanding social and digital best practices, specifications and other considerations.
  • Participates in meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensures proper licensing is in place and adheres to all licensing and copyright standards and to the conditions of all purchased licenses.
  • Remains current with knowledge of video, audio and photo technology, production and industry best practices.
  • Stays up to date on culture, trends, digital creative and social media landscape to ensure that the Library is reaching audiences effectively, creatively and efficiently.
  • Upgrades skills to meet the evolving needs of the M & C team through the use of training software, online communities, professional literature, continuing education and conference attendance.
 
  1. Graphic Design
 
  • Assists with the production of day to day graphic design requests, using design software, following established brand and design standards and working with the Graphic Design Specialist.
  • Creates digital and print assets and materials for a wide variety of needs and applications, including support for all Library departments and initiatives.
  • Prepares material for printing, proofing and ensuring it is print-ready. Has working knowledge of Copy Centre printing equipment and software. Submits print-ready files to vendors following established guidelines and working with the Graphic Design Specialist under the direction of the Manager, Communications.
  • Ensures proper licensing is in place and adheres to all licensing and copyright standards and to the conditions of all purchased licenses.
  • Ensures all accessibility requirements are met.
  • Remains current with graphic design software skills and industry trends.
 
  1. Marketing and Communications Department Support
 
  • Works with all members of the M & C department to generate and evaluate ideas and designs and to produce collaborative work in print and digital media.
  • Provides support to production of the Library’s digital newsletters, working with the Communications Specialist.
  • Provides content support for the Library’s corporate website, utilizing the website’s Content Management System (CMS) and following established procedures and working with the Web Developer.
  • Works collaborative with Web Developer and Communications Specialist to understand and effectively utilize Google Analytics and other Google platforms as well as emerging analytics and digital advertising platforms.
  • Maintains organized files for all projects ensuring efficient use of files and storage.
  • Resolves routine hardware and software problems with departmental technology platforms and equipment. Performs basic equipment maintenance. Communicates with Library departments and external service providers in the repair of equipment as needed.
  • Ensures the safety, security and proper use of all departmental equipment.
  • Recommends purchase or repair of software and equipment and purchase of supplies and production services, having met with vendors, conducted research, reviewed budget criteria and identified available options.
  • In consultation with Manager, Communications, places orders from suppliers, completes and submits purchase orders upon approval of the Manager, Communications.
  • Provides back-up support to other members of the department as needed.
  • Assists with the planning and delivery of Library events as assigned.

 
  1. Teamwork and Collaboration
 
  • Works collaboratively with staff in all departments across all phases of social media and digital marketing development and execution.
  • Maintains collaborative relationships with the Information Technology Department to ensure functionality of software, departmental files and platforms.
  • Works with external partners, including the Friends of the Library, on specific projects as assigned.
  • Represents and promotes the Library and the Communications department at internal and external activities in an enthusiastic and professional manner.
  • Regularly seeks out feedback to ensure user needs (internal and external) are being met.
  • Provides consultative support across the organization on relevant projects and initiatives.  Makes presentations and offers training and other support.

Qualifications 
 
  • Successful completion of a two-year diploma in Graphic Design, Digital Marketing or related discipline.
  • 2 years of demonstrated work experience creating digital marketing and social media content and campaigns in an agency setting or for large businesses or organizations.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Illustrator and PhotoShop.
  • Demonstrated experience in photography, audio and video production.
  • Demonstrated experience in writing creative copy for social media and websites.
  • Experience using a website CMS to add and update content, with a good understanding of SEO, web standards and accessibility.
  • A portfolio that demonstrates creativity, high quality design and effective communication.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of key digital and social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Google, etc. with advanced expertise in social media editing, automation and other tools.
  • Familiarity with live broadcasting and capturing live content.
  • Knowledge of latest industry trends, algorithm changes, best practices, security protocols and audience behaviour.
  • High attention to detail in accuracy of information, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
  • Outstanding time and project management skills, with an ability to reorganize prioritizes in order to respond to emerging priorities and opportunities.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively across teams and with external stakeholders and to be open to feedback.
  • Familiarity with emerging technology and a thorough knowledge of current trends and innovations in digital media
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and be open to feedback.
  • Skilled at making public presentations and representing the Library in the community.
  • An understanding of the very diverse audiences that the Library serves.
  • Curiosity and enthusiasm for social media and digital marketing.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.

Band 5 - $26.365 to $33.682 per hour.

This position works 100% on site in office to be able to support our public service staff.
