Night Shift (11:00pm – 7:05am)
Working Shift Leader
**Training will be on Dayshift for approximately 1 month**
 
Supervision Experience: 3 to 5 Years
Reporting To: Plant Manager

Overview:
The Shift Leader is responsible for directing and supervising the efforts of the operations of staff members. The Shift Leader will co-ordinate the operation of the shift activities in our Electrical Steel Slitting and Transformer Core Forming plant, while driving performance improvements in the areas of Safety, Quality, On Time Delivery and Employee Morale. The Shift Leader will act as a champion for 5S implementation and continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure employees are properly trained and capable of performing their job tasks by providing on the job training of personnel as needed or mandated.
  • Conduct formal and informal performance reviews of employees.
  • Ensure the quality and quantity of work meets internal standards and customer requirements. Ensure conformance to production schedules, and safe operating procedures of the company. Organize and assign work to best utilize skills, available man-hours, and machines, to obtain the most favourable costs and quality of workmanship.
  • Perform and monitor machine operation, observe flow of material and propose corrective measures if deficiencies or irregularities are detected.
  • Analyze and diagnose equipment malfunctions, quality problems, and production delays. Expedite and supervise repairs, preventive maintenance or corrective measures to control downtime and production delays.
  • Provide information regarding production delays, status of orders in process, and prepare production reports as required by normal operating procedures. Maintain conformance with work rules and regulations.
  • Ensure all legislative requirements of the Occupation Health and Safety Act and all other applicable laws are met and followed.
  • Mitigate any detected unsafe conditions and participate in administration of plant safety policies, specifically, but not limited to Section 27 of OHSA, housekeeping, job training, job evaluation, and employee appraisal.
  • Maintain conformance with work rules and regulations, issue warnings or approved disciplinary measures on violations.
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • College diploma, skilled trade or equivalent
  • 3-5 years working experience as a supervisor in any steel coil slitting operation.   It could be for automotive or appliance, or any other manufacturing plant.  He or she should have a demonstrated team management skill.  Mechanical engineering degree would be a huge plus.
  • Must possess high degree of mechanical aptitude
  • Must be able to work overtime as required
  • Must be able to work various shifts if needed.
