Job Description

Psychologist

Position Summary:  * Less than 1 FTE is negotiable

This position provides a full range of diagnostic, assessment, consultation, therapeutic counseling and treatment services for children and their families, including the provision of any licensed acts as permitted by the College of Psychologists of Ontario under the Regulated Health Professionals Act and Psychology Act. The function of this position is to meet the psychological service needs for the team, as defined by the Manager. The primary duties are to complete psychological assessments and provide consultation to teams regarding clients and programs.

Education/Training/Experience:
  • Doctoral level degree in Psychology
  • The doctoral degree should include at least one year of pre–doctoral residency training.
  • Must be registered as a Psychologist by the College of Psychologists of Ontario
  • Meets standards for on–going professional development as established by the College of Psychologists of Ontario.
  • Maintains current knowledge of assessment, treatment, and related issues through familiarity with recent scientific journals and other sources of information.
  • Verbal and written communication skills necessary to provide counseling and consultation and to produce formal reports for publication and presentation to the public as well as expert testimony.
  • Demonstrated skills in administration/interpretation of standardized tests.  Understands and synthesizes complex material.  Designs pure and applied research projects.  Solves complex clinical problems.
  • Broad knowledge base of therapeutic modalities with children.  Provides treatment in at least one modality.  Maintains a level of professional conduct independently as a regulated practitioner under the professional and ethical guidelines of the College of Psychologists of Ontario and has a teaching/training role in areas of specialization and provides professional consultation to staff
  • Experience in Microsoft office (i.e., outlook, Word, excel etc.) 
  • Keyboarding skills to enter reports and case notes onto computerized case management information system.  Perceptual motor coordination and dexterity to administer tests.
  • Relates to children and their families to provide professional services.  Relates with other professionals: (team members, outside professionals).  These skills include tact, persuasion, diplomacy, and patience to provide professional supervision and direction.  Relates on a professional basis in legal contexts.
  • Responsible for upholding ethical and professional standards as determined by the College of Psychologists of Ontario
  • Psychological tests must be administered and interpreted with accuracy and validity.  The interpretation of findings must be communicated accurately to parents, colleagues, and professionals.  High standards of clinical practice are necessary to ensure competent delivery of therapeutic approaches and confidentiality
  • Works as an independent practitioner with direction from the Manager
  • Current driver’s license preferred
