Job Description

Hours:  28 hours per week. Evenings and some weekends will be required.  

OUTCOMES: The project will contribute to the following outcomes:

  • Newcomer women receive the information and support they need to navigate service systems and make informed decisions about life in Ontario.
  • Newcomer women overcome barriers and challenges, build resilience and wellbeing, and achieve their settlement and integration goals.
  • Newcomer women participate in social connections and community life.
  • Newcomer women understand the community resources in their neighbourhood and how to access them for their families and themselves.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Woman Integration Worker will have three key areas of responsibility

  • Plan and deliver group activities to support vulnerable women on topics that address issues that affect their daily lives and ability to have successful settlement in their community such as positive family living,, financial literacy, community engagement, volunteerism and health and wellness.
  • Responsible to plan, coordinate and implement community activities and events for newcomer families in Southeast London to help support with their integration process.
  • Work closely with other GCCRC staff to provide support to programs that have vulnerable newcomer families accessing them

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Planning the various aspects to deliver the workshops/sessions including developing content, confirming speakers, booking space, registration process, promotional materials etc.
  • Conduct outreach to promote the project and recruit newcomer families in the community to participate
  • Implement monthly group opportunities that support community integration, engagement and supports information dissemination regarding community supports and services
  • Cultivate and develop relationships with newcomer women and their families
  • Foster a positive approach to integrating newcomers to Canada and London
  • Ensure safety of all individuals participating in events and activities
  • Ensure that sufficient human resources ( volunteers) are available at each event/activity
  • Work as part of an interdisciplinary team to provide coordinated settlement supports in conjunction with the Settlement Crisis Worker and other Neighbourhood Resource Centres (NRC’s)

Administration

  • Actively participate in all staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Participate in the overall operation and activities of the organization as a member of our collective team.
  • Collect and maintain all relevant data and written reports required for reporting requirements for  GCCRC  and the funder- Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration( MCI)
  • Operate in accordance with the policies, guidelines, and protocols of GCCRC
  • Promote and demonstrate sensitivity to cross-cultural issues.

Qualifications:

  • B.A. or diploma in (Social Sciences) or equivalent international degree or diploma or experience
  • Minimum of 2-3 years relevant experience (i.e. in community outreach, organizing events, activities, groups, workshop and delivery
  • Proven ability to work with individuals and groups from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Knowledge of the newcomer settlement experience and community supports
  • Project a positive, friendly and professional attitude
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Exceptional customer service skills, over the phone and in person
  • Self-motivated individual with ability to work under pressure
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, as well as verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate in Arabic or Spanish an asset.
  • Organizational, time management, and leadership skills
  • Excellent computer skills in MS Office including PowerPoint, Word and Excel
  • Must obtain a Vulnerable Person’s Police Screening- at own cost
  • Possess First Aid, and CPR or willing to obtain at own cost within 2 months of employment
  • This position requires a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
