DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides the necessary leadership to plan, organize, direct, coordinate and control the daily plumbing construction operations of the business in order to meet the sales and profitability objective of the company
- Performs estimating for the Plumbing Division to generate sufficient sales
- Responsible for the accurate development of material and labour cost takeoffs
- Performs estimates, obtain quotations with various material suppliers for best prices on materials required for each job
- Completes template for estimating utilizing various profit margins
- Reviews the job cost data of completed jobs and in work process and evaluates their profitability
- Maintains all necessary paperwork to assist, as necessary, the Office Manager in tracking and reporting job costs and variances
- Reviews various management reports and takes corrective action when necessary; keeps the President informed of slippage in completion dates and and excessive cost overruns
- Reviews all job costing information and determines the cause of all significant variances; reviews the job costing results to improve future performance
- Determines the amount of the customer monthly draws based on the work completed to date and/or materials delivered to the job site. Ensures that if costs have been incurred in the month, materials and/or a portion of labour that/ the customer is appropriately billed
- Ensures a cooperative working relationship exists consistently with other functional areas of the company to ensure a teamwork approach toward solving problems and building for future success
- Ensures the decision-making process is decentralized and performed at the proper levels by delegating responsibilities to employees in a manner that ensures they understand their tasks and roles; provides guidance, counsel, and direction to all employees and is effective in giving direction to personnel to help them succeed in achieving their goals and measures of performance
- Ensures that the quality of the company's service is of the highest possible level, appropriate to the customers' requirements
- Attends weekly job progress meetings with other managers
- Visits job sites, as needed, to bid correctly and evaluate any conditions that will affect the job cost and bid price
- Ensures that all required safety rules, regulations, etc. are enforced
- Prices additional work, authorizations for changes to existing contracts beyond the original scope of work
- Performs other tasks and duties as directed
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- G-2 License
- 306 A Plumbing License
- Masters Plumbing License
- Minimum 10 years plumbing
- At least 3-5 years managing residential/commercial plumbing crews
- Backflow Preventer Testing Certification is an asset
- Must be able to work independently and meet reporting deadlines
- Must possess leadership ability to direct and motivate subordinates
- Must be ability to work closely with diverse groups of people, including employees at all levels, and other outside professionals
- Should have an understanding of a computerized estimating and takeoff system (Accubid) - Excel spreadsheet
- Must be able to develop schedules and meet deadlines
- Must be able to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Must have good mathematical aptitude and good written and verbal communication skills
- Should be able to read financial reports and work/communicate closely with department administration and management in regards to profitability
- Must be able to delegate responsibilities; must be able to objectively evaluate the performance of subordinates; and must be able to hold them accountable in a constructive manner
- Must be able to promote a high quality work ethic and a safe working environment
- Must be familiar with the various building codes
