Job Description
Summary of Duties
Reports to and under the general supervision of the Division Manager II, Geomatics, supports civil engineering undertakings relating to municipal roadways, sewers, water supply, and subdivision and development.
Work Performed
Utilizes conventional and total station surveying techniques to obtain existing topographical detail (i.e. curbs/sidewalks/trees to facilitate design/construction drawings.
Prepares maps, graphs, charts, presentation graphics and civil engineering plans to client specifications, using manual and automated techniques.
Assists in the development of customized Computer Aided Drafting Design and Total Station software.
Inspects construction work to ensure compliance with prescribed engineering drawing requirements for work performed by others, and has a working knowledge of testing procedures and testing equipment relative to civil engineering works.
Maintains a working knowledge of the Ontario Health and Safety Regulations for construction projects, identifies problems to contract administrator on site.
Develops and maintains various departmental databases (i.e. parcel mapping, water inventory maintenance, sewer inventory maintenance).
Performs data conversions, file translations spanning various Computer Aided Drafting Design/Geographical Information System (GIS) platforms.
Examines "as-constructed drawings" from consultants for conformance with drawing standards.
Maintains a filing, retrieval and reproduction system for departmental plans in hard copy and digital forms.
Gives advice on the interpretation and application of the policies, standards, methods and procedures of the Division to consultants, developers, contractors, and members of the public and to other divisions, departments and government bodies.
Arranges and attends meetings with other Department/Divisional staff, developers, consultants, contractors, individuals, and other agencies to plan, discuss and coordinate projects on behalf of the Division/Department as required.
Assists in the preparation of digital presentations using the appropriate software.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Experience
Three year Community College Civil Engineering Diploma
Experience:
Three to four years' related experience.
Specialized Training & Licenses
Demonstrated proficiency in wordprocessing, spreadsheets and various software.
Valid Driver's Licence-Class G
Compensation and Other Information
$51,184 - $73,508 (Level 12)

Current hours of Work: Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
These hours of work are subject to change in accordance with the Collective Agreement and may include evening hours and Saturdays.
