Job Description

JOB TITLE:                  CHILD, YOUTH AND FAMILY PROGRAM ASSISTANT  (1 POSTION)

 

SUMMARY:                This is a summer position (30.5 hours per week). The Child, Youth and Family Program Assistant will work alongside LUSO’s Literacy & Resource Coordinator  and Youth Support Worker to provide support with planning, development and implementation of various programs and activities geared to support children, youth and families residing in NE London.    

                                   Successful candidate must be available to start June 15th and commit to the full 11 weeks of employment. Candidate must also be flexible as some evenings and weekends may be required during the summer.  

 

DURATION:               Monday 15, 2015 to Friday August 28, 2015  ( 11 weeks)

RATE OF PAY:            $11.50 per hour plus mandatory benefits

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Shared Beginnings- weekly parent/child literacy based program for parents/caregivers with children 0-6 years of age
  • Books & Breakfast-  assist with various aspects of the program including planning literacy based activities, assisting with Breakfast set-up and clean-up.
  • Family Art Sessions- assist with 4 Family Art sessions planned for summer 2015- with the support of a local community artist
  • Literacy in Motion- pop up literacy themed interactive and skill learning activities to help support families with children ages 6-12
  • Youth Impact Centre Stage- provide support to an arts based program for youth ages 11-17 that promotes leadership and helps youth develop skills   
  • Youth Leadership Program-support youth ages 11-17 to organize community events and activities in their community that engage youth, promote pride and empower youth
  • Outreach and Promotion- assist with promotion of programs, through various outreach activities in NE London.
  • Administrative work-  assist with maintaining statistics for the various programs, including attendance, demographics, conducting program surveys etc.,

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Applicant  must be a student in a post-secondary program related to human and social services
  • Applicant must have been a full time student during the 14/15 academic year and must be returning to school on a full time basis in September of 2015. 
  • Previous experience working with children, youth and families
  • Must be able to work with individuals of diverse backgrounds
  • Must be organized, and have efficient work habits
  • Possess good time management and problem solving skills
  • Must be highly energetic, empathetic, creative and reliable
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Access to a car an asset
  • Successful completion of a Police Records Screening ( at own cost)
  • Second language a definite asset

 

PRIORITY WILL BE GIVEN TO VISIBLE MINORITIES, FIRST NATIONS INDIVIDUALS AND THOSE SPEAKING A SECOND LANGUAGE.
